J’uno – Sandlot

J’uno Offers Liberating Ideas to the Masses With Introspective New Album ‘InnerVision’

CHESAPEAKE, VA – For as long as he can remember, the No. 1 has been an important symbol to Jaylen Foskey. He wore No. 1 when he played football in middle and high school. He is the ace of his line as a member of the fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi. It’s his lucky number and has become a central part of his identity. So, it made sense for him to embrace the number as his stage name when he decided to pursue music as a full-time career. Today J’uno is one of the fastest-rising young talents in the industry, and his new album “InnerVision” is about to show the world a whole new level of talent and artistry.

The project is one that is very reflective of the current times, with 14 songs that deal with societal issues, mental health, and what goes on in the mind of a black man in today’s “American” society. With tracks like “Realize” and “Sandlot,” J’uno explores how various experiences can affect or lead to trauma and examines the depths of human compassion and vulnerability in ways that he hopes will draw people closer together.

“The No. 1 aligns with the way I think about the world,” J’uno said. “I see us all as one people – one cosmopolitan society as people of the earth. I really believe we as a society need to wake up and understand that we’re all in it together. Being one unit is something that has always been driven in my mind. This album is about overcoming the things that divide us and trying to bring more light to the world. It’s all about vulnerability and trying to make a push for making sure people are able to open up about their issues. It’s all about uplifting and empowerment and reflection. And ultimately it’s all about freeing yourself from the worries of what’s going on in the world and from the bounds of societal pressures.”

One of the more poignant songs on the album is the single “Sandlot.” Born from a personal experience that came with a major trauma to one of his best friends, the song offers a nostalgic vibe and invites listeners to think back to days of growing up and playing outside while appreciating the lessons learned at the time. J’uno said a month after he and his friend graduated from high school, his friend was shot outside of his home while defending his family from intruders who were trying to break in. The bullet missed his spine by less than a centimeter. His friend is now fully healed and able to walk, but the experience was one that served as a harsh spotlight on the evils of the world.

“There are so many people out there who have lost people, or almost lost people, to gun violence,” J’uno said. “I wanted to make a song that was about that experience, but more so was about reflecting on good times and relationships.”

Overall, J’uno said the entire project has more of a mellow, laid-back vibe to it, with lyricism that has already been likened to wordsmiths like J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar. Some of the songs pick up a bit, but for the most part it’s a chill vibe. More than anything it’s a project that showcases this young artist’s impressive intellect and crystal-clear clarity and perspective on the world. His insights are profound, and listeners will be hard-pressed not to think about the ideas he brings to the table long after they’ve stopped listening to his music.

“Freedom encompasses so many different aspects of my music,” J’uno said. “Freedom of expression. Freedom from the bounds of one sound – I love to experiment and I have such an eclectic taste in music. Freedom to create and not try to be tied down to being a one-trick pony. Personal freedom. That idea of liberation is the main message of this album. Free yourself from any type of thought process that limits you. Be limitless and free within yourself, and let’s use that to free society as a whole.”

Keyz – Negus Foe Life

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

West Coast rapper Keyz reminds fans of royal heritage with new single ‘Negus Foe Life’

LOS ANGELES, CA – In the Ethiopian Semitic language known as Tigrinya, the term “Negus” denotes a monarch, such as the Negus Bahri (king of the sea) or the Negus Al-Najashi of the Islamic tradition. West Coast artist Brandon “Keyz” Robertson is on a mission to bring that sense of royalty back to his brothers and sisters of color with his new single “Negus Foe Life,” which is currently available across all streaming platforms. Featuring the fast-rising artist God Areef, the single is intentional about challenging the derogatory term of the N-word to give people a different perspective.

“I’m giving people reasons why we are who we are and where we come from,” Keyz said. “We are who we are because we come from this ghetto and poverty. But when you spell the word Negus it means kings and royalty. We’re gonna be kings and royals for life, no matter where you came from.”

The song is has an upbeat vibe with a message somewhat similar to NWA’s “Niggaz 4 Life.” It’s distributed by RTM Music Group, a label that Keyz started with his partner who sadly passed away in 2018 after being shot. Prior to that Keyz had always been the behind-the-scenes operator of the label, but he knew he needed to honor his friend by continuing what they had built and began to be the face of the label both as the primary artist and the CEO. He picked up the pieces and has been building the business ever since, releasing multiple singles and even completing a film currently featured on Amazon Prime called “Baby Gangster The Movie.”

More than anything it’s his unique sound and style that has been drawing audiences far and wide to his music. He bring real-life content through his lyrics and is consistent with his quality, never veering away from the high standard for which RTM Music Group has come to be known.

“I make songs about real-life content that people can relate to,” he said. “Every aspect of life I’m gonna have a song about. I think I have the best hooks, too. My lyrics are catchy, but I think I have the best hooks ever. Ultimately I want my music to be known for being authentic and the realness of it. A lot of times peop0le won’t see your vision when you’re building it, but they’ll see it when you finish it. Ain’t no doubt in my mind that people are gonna get what I’m doing and see what’s going on. There aren’t a lot of West Coast artists right now doing what I’m doing, and I want to represent. It’s time to bring that good music back.”

In addition to “Negus Foe Life,” Keyz is also preparing two other singles to release this summer, “How” and “Crossroads.” To listen to his music, or to follow him on social media, please visit the following links:

Nicky Monroe – Hunnit Rounds

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

Nicky Monroe blends multiple styles to create new genre showcased on hot new EP ‘Elevation’

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Take a dash of the lyricism and aggressive energy you get from Missy Elliott or Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopez, sprinkle that with brashness of artists like Beyonce or Janet Jackson, and finish it off with a healthy dose of Southern style with lyrics that are raw and real, and you get the fresh new sound from Florida-based artist Nicky Monroe. Her sound is unlike anything else in the music industry today, and it’s something that’s featured in full effect on her latest EP “Elevation.”

The project is one that she’s been developing for more than a year, and comes after a journey in the music industry that spans nearly a decade. She’s released music in the past that has brought forth many worthwhile accolades, but she admits that they were merely stepping stones to the high-quality productions she’s now offering with this EP.

“To me, it’s the perfect EP,” she said. “Each song is very different. If you’re looking for an artist with one style, I’m not that person. I don’t fit in one category. I listen to all kinds of different music. I like to make great music and not be stuck in one category. This project is very diverse. Each track gets better and better and builds and elevates.”

The project starts with “Road May Go,” a track Monroe said she wrote because she was going through a lot of different changes in her life – from losing friends and family to chasing down opportunities with her music. She recalls a lot of prayers in which she asked God to show her who was for her and remove anyone who wasn’t.

“It was crazy the way friendships started falling apart and people who were trying to step on my toes just went away,” she said. “I came up with this song because I don’t know where the road may be taking me, but I know I won’t fold and I’ll stand ten toes in the paint.”

The second track on the EP is “So Tired,” which is perhaps the most radio-ready single on the whole project. It has more of a laid-back, calm vibe set against lyrics that explore the every day struggle of ducking and dodging trouble. Monroe said people look at her and see jewelry and nice clothes and assume she has it all together, but like all people she battles her own struggles. This song is about the internal battle that often rages inside people despite how strongly they flex and shine to the outside world.

That’s followed by “Hunnit Rounds,” which is a Southern style aggressive hip-hop groove that has been getting some major attention from fans all throughout the South. Monroe talks some real smack on this track, and serves a notice to all the haters that she won’t put up with any of their BS.

“I’m not a gangsta rapper or talk about shooting and killing people,” she said. “But if it came to the point where I had to defend myself, I do know people who are licensed and legal to handle that. I’m just letting people know that I got a Hunnit Rounds and a hunnit clips, so just leave me alone and there won’t be no issues.”

Monroe finishes off the EP with “Nicky’s Dangerous” and “Humble.” The first features Jamaican artist Nicky Greed, who has been making waves in the industry for the better part of a decade. He brings an Island vibe to the track that plays well against Monroe’s hard-edged grittiness. On “Humble,” Monroe concludes with a sentiment that she not only hopes to present through her own character, but which she hopes to inspire in others, as well.

“Regardless of everything going on around me, I just want to remain humble,” she said. “That’s a message that needs to be spread around, especially in hip-hop. Everyone wants to be arrogant or the boss or the baddest. You can be all that, but remain humble. That’s how you keep it all. You don’t want to lose it, so through your struggles and triumphs just remain humble. Everything happens for a reason, and when it’s your time it will definitely come. But when you’re not humble, you can play yourself out of what was for you.”

Monroe’s EP “Elevation” is currently available across all streaming platforms. To listen to her music, or to follow her on social media, please visit the following links:

Million Dolla Moe – Time Is Money

Million Dolla Moe makes case for song of the summer with hit track ‘Time Is Money’

NEW HAVEN, CT – Maurice “Million Dolla Moe” Morris is a 29-year-old musical artist and entrepreneur with a unique sound and style that is catching the attention of an ever-widening fanbase all up-and-down the U.S. East Coast. His latest album “The Legend of the TrapStar” is an impressive display of raw talent and freaky flows, with hit singles like “Time Is Money” that are already creating a lot of buzz among music lovers and industry insiders alike. The project includes features from E Ness and Lil Dev, and drops from Dave East, Styles P, Bizarre, and Mr. Swipey.

The name of the album is influenced by Jeezy’s project “Legend of the Snowman,” though the overall vibe of the album doesn’t have the same feel as that classic album. Instead, Million Dolla Moe brings his versatility and determination to the table as he reminisces about the days when he was a young kid, living life to the fullest and taking his first steps on the journey that would ultimately lead to his success as a professional musician today.

“I want to be the best,” he said. “No matter what type of music I make, I’m trying to say the best lyrics and say it with the most unique cadence. I started when I was 9 with just a mic and a computer. I feel like I was born for a reason, and I’ve been chasing that million ever since.”

Million Dolla Moe has since created his own record label and clothing line called TrapStar Inc. (previously Young Trapperz Entertainment). He represents other artists while also producing his own songs. He has worked with some big names in the industry, including Cassidy, Gunplay, Max B, Ar-Ab, Fred The Godson, Troy Ave, and more. Of the 11 tracks on his new album, nine of them were produced by him, including the breakout hit “Time is Money.” The upbeat party song has been making waves since its release earlier this month, and it’s proving to be one of the front-runners for the song of the summer. It’s a song about having nice jewelry and enjoying the glitz and glamour of nice things when you go out and have fun with friends.

“Most of my music is lyrical and substance driven, but I wanted to make a couple of songs that the clubs and radio stations could play,” Moe said. “This is one of those songs. It just talks about Rolexes and parties and money, and it’s just a fun song with a lot of energy.”

Moe said he plans to continue to ride the wave with this new album for the rest of the year, though he is already hard at work on some new singles that he might drop this fall or winter. He said he hopes people will look at his music and his body of work over the past 10 years and recognize a musician who is a real artist.

“I try to do it as art-themed as possible as I get deeper and more professional with it,” he said. “I talk about what’s going on in life at the time, and people can relate to that. But more than anything I think of each song as an art piece, and I hope people appreciate that.”

Robfusion – Wine & Dine This is Not a Love Affair

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

Bevvy of sounds and styles come together for Robfusion on new single ‘Wine & Dine’

DETROIT, MI – Jamaican-born artist Robfusion is living up to his name by bringing a fusion of sounds on the hot new single “Wine & Dine: This is not a Love Affair.” The song offers a jazzy kind of beat with an island vibe while also serving as a cross between K-Pop, R&B and Pop. It’s impossible not to hear the Caribbean in his Jamaican-born vocals, but even the laid-back vibe of the song gives listeners that sway often associated with the Islands. Ultimately it’s a songa bout having fun and enjoying the passion of a one-night stand.

“When people say they don’t want a love affair, it means they want to be wined and dined and romanced without having the commitment,” Robfusion said. “I love the feel of this song. It has an excess amount of character and it’s very dramatic. It fives you a feeling of energy while also telling a story. It’s also the first time I’ve done a live recording in a studio with a full band, which gives it an entirely different feel.”

Robfusion has been doing music for more than 20 years, though he’s never officially learned how to read music or play an instrument. He’s just always had the natural ability to hear a beat and put words to it. It started when he realized that a lot of the music he was listening to wasn’t as good as he hoped it would be, so he started writing his own. He entered a singing competition and won first place, and was even nominated for the Detroit Music Awards. One thing led to another and he began opening for some bigger artists when they would come to perform in Detroit. Eventually he made a name for himself and gained the respect of industry insiders and fans alike.

“What makes me unique is that I have that Caribbean background that blends with different harmonies and a wide vocal range where my voice can go,” Robfusion said. “Each song sounds totally different, but sounds good. A lot of friends in the past called me Robert Wicked because my style was wicked good. But I like Robfusion better because of how I fuse different sounds together – like Reggae and R&B and Rock and Rap. The style I bring is all of the above, and it just sounds good.”

Ultimately Robfusion said he hopes he’s remembered as an artist with a certain kind of class. He always dresses up and looks very presentable, and he’ll never use derogatory words in his songs or treat anyone with disrespect. Though he might sing about politics and real-life issues, he’ll never take it to an offensive place. And more than anything he creates music that has depth.

“I think when artists come to the table with their music, they should leave it all on the floor with their creativity and style,” he said. “I want to be known as someone who does something totally different. Someone for whom people say, ‘Wow! This guy is incredible!’ And, of course, I want them to recognize that the name fusion really fits because of how I work together so many different types of music into my songs.”

Bay Area hooks meet Midwest vibes on new single from Rose Gold Rackz

COLUMBUS, OH – While many people have had major struggles over the past year during the global pandemic, some people have taken advantage of opportunities that have presented themselves during this crazy time. Rose Gold Rackz from Columbus, Ohio, is one such opportunistic entrepreneur. Instead of lamenting his losses, this enterprising artist decided to start a handful of new endeavors. He opened a smoke shop – starting the business from the ground up with nothing – and turned it into a $100,000 profit by the end of the year. He also dove headfirst into creating new music, with successful singles that have helped him grow an ever-widening fanbase over the past year. He’s celebrating that success with a new single called “We Win,” which is currently available across all streaming platforms.

“It’s a song that’s all about celebrating success,” Rose Gold said. “Things are starting to look up for a lot of people and it’s time to celebrate. This song has a great Bay Area sound infused with Midwest roots. I grew up with that Bay Area West Coast sound, but I’ve adapted it and took my own slang and my own voice to it, with my own creative ad-libs and terminology. People can see that on this song, and they’ll see how I express myself through music is different than anyone else out there.”

Rose Gold said he’s dedicated to bringing back bars and “real rap” to the culture of hip-hop. He’s been performing for more than 20 years, opening for artists such as Styles P, Kevin Gates, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, Camron, The Jacka, Berner, Young Guns, Oschino & Sparks, and more. He has also been a part of the Big Heff Industry Tour in the Midwest and has performed in Tampa Mystics’ Industry’s Most Wanted tour, as well.

Since Rose Gold was a product of the 80s and 90s, his first major influences were Sugar Hill Gang, Kurtis Blow, and Run DMC. As he got older, he grew toward more of a West Coast influence from artists such as E-40, Too Short, NWA and various other artists from the Sacramento area. But coming from the heart of the Midwest, his style is different than any of those legends with whom he grew up. Working with producers such as The Local Astronauts, Shawty Fresh, D Ruff on the Beat, and Akrite on The Track, has given him a diverse sound and style that is highly incomparable.

“I’m a product of the 80s and 90s and I’m trying to bring that feeling back,” he said. “I want bars and real hustle music back on the table.”

He’s expanded that influence to include multiple other entrepreneurial endeavors, including his label Ganjapreneur Music, which includes a clothing line and will soon begin offering Ganja-infused products like drinks and edibles. Rose Gold is also working on more music and plans to release a new single called “All She Want is Bandz” in mid-July, featuring female artist Miss Raindrop. He also has an album in development in conjunction with The Local Astronauts that should release later this year.

DoubleJae – All a Dream

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

Old-school hip-hop meets modern-day style on new music from industry veteran DoubleJae

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Junior Anthony Jackson – better known by his stage name DoubleJae – has come a long way since growing up rubbing shoulders with hip-hop legend Biggie Smalls. Growing up in New York, the young man was surrounded by music born from the streets, and he and Biggie would dream together about where they might go when they were older and successful with their music. Jackson got in trouble with the law and spent some years in prison, during which time Biggie ended up blowing up with success before being murdered. By the time DoubleJae was released, biggie was gone and many of the other artists he’d worked with in his youth had gone on to bigger and better things.

That hasn’t stopped this veteran artist from pursuing his dream. Over the past 15 years, DoubleJae has continued to make hits with his unique voice and flow. He still showcases a mastery of the old-school style of hip-hop made famous in the late 1990s, but today he combines that with a twist of modern influences for a sound that is equal parts nostalgic and progressive.

That sound takes center stage on his latest single “All A Dream,” which is currently available across all streaming platforms. He describes the song as a dream-like expression of memories from his time as a youth, hustling on the streets in between freestyling on street corners with Biggie.

“It’s a tribute to him and to hip-hop in general, and the way hip-hop was back then,” he said. “When you’re an artist you keep dreaming in your heart. I’m an artist. I had a dream one night that I was with Biggie when we were young again, back the way it was, and we just went from one stream to the next with pure hip-hop. The song is like that – it bounces all over the place in the best kind of way.”

As DoubleJae has progressed throughout his career, he’s had the opportunity to work with some of the best in the game. His early career developed under the tutelage of The Force MGs, and he collaborated with artists like Trickle and ACM, the latter of which continues to work with him today as his producer. ACM is perhaps best-known for his hit project “The Professional,” which was also released while DoubleJae was in prison in the early 2000s.

Today DoubleJae boasts a sound and style that is different from anyone else out there. His signature flow is good, fun, old-fashioned hip-hop. And the messages in his lyrics explore topics far different than most other hip-hop music today.

“I’m not talking about guns and drugs and everything glorifying that,” he said. “It’s OG rap. I like the rap that young kids do today, but my stuff is grown and sexy. It’s mature rap. It’s aged like fine wine.”

DoubleJae said he’ll continue to showcase that signature style on his forthcoming ablum “The Late Bloomer,” which is set to release later this year.

Swavi – Blicky

R&B meets Hip-Hop with new sound and style on new single ‘Blicky’

DETROIT, MI – Between his mother’s love of R&B and his dad’s obsession with Hip-Hop, young Chris “Swavi” McKinney got a first-hand education in the best that the music industry had to offer. So it should come as no surprise that his new single, “Blicky,” is the perfect blend of R&B vibes and traditional Hip-Hop grooves. It’s a song with a slow, melancholy vibe that sets the stage for his rapid-fire flow, with a unique tenor vocal that immediately draws the listener’s ear. And once captivated, Swavi keeps his audiences on the hook by spitting bars in impressive ways.

“This is a song with a laid-back vibe that’s perfect for the clubs,” Swavi said. “The lyrics are a little deeper, though. And the visuals give a description of what type of artist I am and the style I bring. The smoothness, beautiful women, and red lights all bending together create a vibe and lifestyle that I want. I’m trying to bring a whole new vibe that’s completely different than anything else in the industry. I’m trying to bring back that feeling that’s just good vibes and good music. I love to bring R&B and Hip-Hop together, and I’m trying to do that in a way that elevates the Detroit sound.”

Swavi said he first got started making music when he was about 14 years old. He and his friend used to write and record songs on his friend’s computer. By the time he was in his later teen years he was studying some of the greats – such as Lil Wayne, Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, T.I., Meek Mill, and more. He also played a lot of basketball and did a little boxing into his early 20s. But once he felt like neither of those options were going to have a legitimate future, he turned full-time to music.

“I knew I could do something with the music if it just got in the right hands,” he said. “I just felt like this was something that was just in me. I got in the studio and began to practice and perfect my sound. Now I’m ready to introduce this debut single to the world. I feel like my music is more moody. I can bring the dark-ish vibes, but I can also turn it up at the same time. I have songs like on a Travis Scott level, and I want those kinds of crowds of fans. Ultimately, I just want to be known for bringing good vibes and making good music.”

Following “Blicky,” Swavi has another single called “All For Nothing” on all platforms, with a music video for that song planned to drop before the end of the summer. This will be followed by the album “Swavi Season.”
