South Georgia Hip Hop group MyFolk drops hot new track ‘Ball Don’t Lie’

SOUTH GEORGIA – Almost every basketball player who has ever played the sport knows that if you do something inappropriate on the court, Karma dictates that you’re not likely to make very many shots. The “Ball Don’t Lie,” as the saying goes, is both the sentiment and the title of a new single from Southern Georgia Hip Hop trio MyFolk.

Currently available across all streaming platforms, “Ball Don’t Lie” is a mid-tempo swaggy song that uses basketball metaphors to illustrate the life experiences that sometimes lead to difficult situations. It’s a song about bad choices and the consequences that come thereafter but done in such a way that it perfectly showcases the unique sound and style of this fast-rising group from the South.

MyFolk is a tight-knit trio made up of cousins Marc Ross and Kleif Bussey, who go by the stage names Candyman and KalicoThe third member of the group is Kalico’s best friend Demetrius AKA FieldBoi. The group has been refining its sound and expanding its reach for more than a decade, releasing three mixtapes and taking over the underground scene. Their releases of “The Resume,” “2 For Da Money” and “NFL (No Fat Lady)” have reached national acclaim thanks to their groundbreaking hard-hitting rhymes, heavy beats and dynamic shifting flow.

“Our lyrics are what really sets us apart,” Kalico said. “Everybody else in Hip Hop seems to be picking up the same vibe and lingo, but we got our own lingo. We always have. And it keeps evolving. That’s what we want our music to be known for, that originality. We got multiple sounds and avenues. We never follow one sound and we can write and make music about any subject or any genre. We just try to be limitless. If you put on a beat, we can make anything.”

That ability to make such high-quality music has brought them to the attention of music insiders, and in recent years, the group has been able to perform at such high-profile clubs as Throwbacks and Club Crucial in Atlanta, Club Rozay, Fountain Inn, and The Martin Twin Theatre in Douglas, Georgia, just to name a few.

Now with the release of “Ball Don’t Lie,” the group is excited to show their fanbase a visceral and impressive illustration of their new sound. Kalico said it’s a song that should be essential for every Hip Hop fan.

“When you’re in the South, people are always using the term ‘MyFolk’ to refer to their group of people,” Kalico said. “When we make music, we always say ‘Hit ‘em in the mouth, Folk!’ because we know our music is gonna make an impact. That’s what this song will do. People are gonna really dig it.”

In addition to “Ball Don’t Lie,” MyFolk is preparing to drop a six-song EP called “200 Proof” later this year.

Sultry voiced artist Layn drops sexy new EP ‘After Midnight’

ATLANTA, GA – Life has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for most people in the world over the past year, but up-and-coming Atlanta-based artist Layn has seen more changes than most other people.

The former Navy helicopter technician finished her service last year and in the time since has moved twice, ended a toxic relationship, gotten married, had multiple jobs and is expecting her first child. And in the middle of all that, she put together a five-track EP that so perfectly showcases her sultry smooth vocals that already people in the industry are turning their heads and it hasn’t even been released yet. Slated to drop across all streaming platforms on July 16, “After Midnight” is the perfect kind of chill vibe to pair with the exploration of all the crazy that has happened in the world over the past year – told through the lens of her own personal up-and-down experiences.

“My life turned around a lot last year – like a lot of other people – and a lot of crazy and important things happened,” she said. “This project is a nod to that place when you’re up past midnight because your brain won’t shut off and you’re just lying there thinking about what’s going on. I’ve been through a lot of things in my life, and I want to be relatable to people of all ages and demographics who have also been through tough situations. Hopefullymy music will help them to know they’re not alone. Music is a release for me, and I would want anyone who hears what I do to feel that same type of way.”

Layn said the five tracks on the EP take listeners on a journey that goes in chronological order of her own experiences. It starts with the single “Lullaby,” which immediately shows off her rich R&B and soulful voice as she laments the loss of a long-time boyfriend while reconnecting with an old friend who could become more. She calls it her “last goodbye and coming back home” song.

That’s followed by “Always U” which further explores the budding relationship with the old friend and the surprise she has at recognizing stronger feelings she’d been repressing for a long time. The slower, laid-back vibe of the song pairs perfectly with her sultry voice in ways that evoke the sexiness of a budding romantic relationship. As she comes to realize how she feels for this man, listeners can put themselves in her shoes and remember their own love stories.

“Worst Way” is the third song on the EP and brings an appropriate level of energy as Layn infuses elements of Pop alongside the Hip Hop rhythms. Inspired by an argument she had with her former boyfriend, the energy of the song is bouncy and will invite anyone listening to get up and move. Then comes “D.T.R.” which uses a quasi-Reggae/Latin beat to bring the journey to the tipping point of Layn’s new relationship. Featuring her now husband Don as a rapper on the track, the song’s swag illustrates the sheer joy of finally discovering that perfect person in your life…  The beat was provided by “Philly P on Tha Trackk

“I’m happy now,” she said. “Things are going really well. This guy who sat behind me in class in high school and gave me a note asking if I wanted his number is now my husband, even though we had moved on from each other and both moved around for the past eight years. The joy of finding each other again and knowing that this person – who has always been there through everything and always stayed connected with me – is the one person that I know will always be Down To Ride.”

The final song on “After Midnight” is called “Free” and it brings listeners back to her sultry soulful sound with a fusion of her unique blend of R&B and Pop. Her journey has brought her to a place where she can finally feel free to be herself, and this song – which showcases her ability as a freestyle rapper – perfectly illustrates that. Her sultry voice intertwines perfectly with her aggressive rapid-fire flow in ways that will make listeners hit repeat time and time again.

Sabastianlax – Freshman

Industry Spotlight, Music

Fast-rising young artist Sabastian Lax drops debut single ‘Freshman’

BROOKLYN, NY – Sean Bailey has a story that would be familiar to most recording artists today. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, this young rapper had a love for music and would spend his free time writing lyrics in his notebook or recording freestyles onto the audio notes app of his phone. Whenever he’d let his friends hear his raps, he’d always receive positive feedback, and by his senior year of high school, it seemed only natural for him to take those raps into the studio.

In the two years since that time, this up-and-coming East Coast artist has continued to develop his unique sound and style in ways that have led him to the release of his debut single, “Freshman”. It’s a song that tells the true story of where this young artist is today – operating under the stage name Sabastian Lax and announcing himself to the world as a new voice in the industry that should not be ignored.

“This is the beginning of the season of trying to make a career out of music,” Sabastian said. “This song is me telling my story of where I am right now and the kind of music people can expect from me. My sound is very unique, and I learned everything by teaching myself. Throughout most of my childhood, I was involved in the performing arts – I acted, played piano, designed clothes and even danced. I started by writing freestyles in my notebook about people around me and stories of what I’ve seen. Basically, my raps are telegraphing the journey I’ve taken and what I want to achieve in life. My music is the best way to manifest the things I want while talking about the stuff I’ve seen while growing up. I have a lot of friends who were into the street life and I hung around them even though I knew it wasn’t my path or direction. It’s not my personal experience, but I can rap about it because I saw it. And I love showing people a different side of that lifestyle. I know they’re good people deep down despite the things they’ve gone through or done. I’m proud of my neighborhood and the experiences that shapes my life and influenced by appreciation for the arts

Sabastian doesn’t just share those experiences through his music, either. This young entrepreneur is also a fashion designer and is currently going to school to study fashion design. He began designing clothes two years ago when he realized how many different styles and types of t-shirts there were throughout the city. His imagination took off and he began designing his own t-shirts. Recently he created a “Ban Trump” t-shirt that he gave out at rallies throughout New York.

Our Michigan hero spent the following years in the background, working, learning, grinding in an attempt to make it out. $oul says “I constantly focused on improving. Sleeze The KingPin – Throw It Back

Industry Spotlight, Music, Promo, Videos

Rising from false murder accusation, Sleeze The Kingpin raps to tell his story and clear his name

JUNCTION CITY, KS – In 2019, Sleeze the Kingpin spent the first few months behind bars. Suspected for being connected to a murder which he had absolutely no involvement in, this man suffered tremendous losses because of the accusations and media storm. Instead of being defeated, Sleeze prevailed through the wrongful allegations. Shortly after his release, he started rapping because he has the voice and the story to tell.

Sleeze The Kingpin’s gritty, authentic street music is reminiscent of an older generation of Rap. The artist is genuine about everything he puts out, and street dudes relate to his message. But his stories are for everyone, including those who don’t actually live the street life like “the people who don’t wanna go to war but love watching war movies,” Sleeze said. “What I’ve been through and what I’ve put down in the music is for everybody. You can either relate to it or you love watching it from the safety of your own home.”

Sleeze’s latest single, “Love Bring You Back” has a sit back, ride out and vibe-feel. Featuring Fiend (From “No Limit”) and Lil Donald (“Do Better”), the track came together after Sleeze met Fiend at an Atlanta Top 20 event. Sleeze pulled together the artists to collaborate on his beat, first by convincing Fiend to add the verse, and then turning to Lil Donald for the hook. Released mid June and produced by Jay Wood, “Love Bring You Back” reminisces about lost love and reconciliation.

The previous single by Sleeze The Kingpin is a dance song called “Throw It Back” which he dropped earlier this year. A club banger, the track “goes hard in the club for the ladies to throw it back, like the song says” Sleeze asserted. Produced by his cousin, Slomeezy, “Throw It Back” features the talented Angel White from Dallas. Although he has only been rapping for a short time, listeners will witness the progress in Sleeze The Kingpin’s creativity in the string of singles he has released over the past year.

Sleeze’s next project is a music video for “Love Bring You Back.” He will travel back to Atlanta where he plans to coordinate filming with the other contributors on the song. He also has a few other projects in the works including some slow jams and the development of his very own record label, Pis Po Records.  The music label is being created to provide opportunities to other upcoming artists that need a way, despite Sleeze being a new artist himself.

Last year began with Sleeze contemplating his life. He thought about his time in the military and how his service enabled him to travel the world. He thought about the things he had done after his military service, and how he had become an entrepreneur who was especially proud of his restaurant. He was also a proud father who was very involved in the lives of his children. Being falsely accused of murder would have broken most, but Sleeze turned the negative experience into fire to light his way into a brighter future. An artist who launched his career only a few weeks after his release from jail, Sleeze is a natural-born storyteller who is admired for his clever wordplay and the way he spins his tales.

Tabares24 – Drop It on Site

Industry Spotlight, Music, Promo, Videos

Miami native creates club bangers perfect for the end of social distancing

MIAMI, FL – If there’s one thing Tabares24 is known for, it’s making club bangers and good quality music. The fast-rising musician from Little Havana in Miami, Florida has been making a name for himself over the past few years with his hard-hitting tunes and his one-of-a-kind flow. His most recent single, “Drop It On Site” is yet another sure-to-be-hit.

Influenced by an eclectic melting pot of different music over the years – from Hip Hop to Rock to Bachata and Salsa – Tabares24 fuses different sounds across bouncy beats in ways that get people moving. He is making his mark on the music industry with his 305 style of Hip Hop and Club anthems. And over the course of the stay-at-home orders following the COVID-19 pandemic, he has slowly put together a catalog of songs that are now ready to release to a world that’s ready to get out and party. He is the producer of these music releases as well.

“This new single is going to be a huge club song,” Tabares24 said. “It’s kind of my way of pushing back against these stay-at-home orders. I’m basically saying if you want to shut the clubs down, that’s fine, we’ll bring the clubs to the gram. It’s definitely a club banger and people are going to love it.”

Tabares24 is utilizing the help of some strippers to help market the song and the forthcoming music video, which is set to drop later this month. By utilizing the social media platform Tick Tock, Tabares24 has recruited strip club dancers who are currently out of work and having them dance to his song. Eventually, he said the music video will bring the strippers back to the club scene, as well as showcase them dancing around him on a party boat with him in the center entertaining everyone.

“We all have cabin fever right now and we desperately want the normalcy of Miami life back,” he said. “That’s what this song is about – getting back to what we love and having a good time.”

In addition to “Drop It On Site,” Tabares24 has released another single called “Where’s My Freedom At.” Unlike most of his other music, this song takes a different approach and is a bit more slow and soulful. It samples bit of Kanye’s music and features “hard lyrics” that explore everything going on with the global pandemic in ways that commiserate with others wanting to rebel against the negative side effects of social distancing.

Both singles will soon be available across all digital streaming platforms, with a music video for “Drop It On Site” to follow later this month.

Dissolver No. 7 – Move Along

Industry Spotlight, Music, Promo, Videos

Country Rocker Dissolver No. 7 offers America a different perspective
on current affairs with new album ‘Star-Spangled Punch’

MACON, GA – Cosmic Country, Southern Rock and Gospel collide in a hot new album from
Dissolver No. 7, led by Georgia-based singer/songwriter Jerry Akin. The musician has made a
name for himself in the industry as a go-to songwriter, with credits for bands such as Innocent
Ivey, The Hog Mountain Brothers and Atomic Sun, just to name a few. But with the release of
his second album “Star-Spangled Punch,” Akin hopes to let the world see a different side of him
– one more transparent and honest and deeply personal than anything he’s previously put out.
The album features nine songs that all explore, in one way or another, the various allegiances
to which we pledge ourselves and the motivations that go into those commitments. Akin said
it’s a timely album for the state of affairs the U.S. finds itself in these days and in some ways,
the challenging messages in his songs will cause listeners to look at the world around more

“The overarching theme is being mindful of what you serve,” Akin said. “What Kingdom are you
crowning? It starts off with a critique of our tendency to cling on to politics over identity – to
dig our heels into something and pledge allegiance to ideals and convictions. All those human
things are going to spoil at some point, and it’s sort of a letdown whenever we invest ourselves wholeheartedly into anything. So I’m admonishing people to be careful of what we’re pledging
our hearts and minds and lives to, because there can be a brokenness to it if we’re not careful.
Part of the human condition is recognizing that the things that divide us aren’t going to be the
things that save us.”

Akin said that though he does touch on spiritual things in his music as a natural outflow of the
faith that plays such a powerful part in his life, he doesn’t consider himself to be a Gospel artist.
In fact, he doesn’t like to label his unique sound and style into any one genre at all. He’s just
someone who writes songs about real life – his faith is part of that, but so are heartbreak and
love and joy and all the other stuff that humans experience in life.

Akin has been writing songs for more than 25 years. In 2014, he launched his own label
DixiePhonic Records, and started recording all original material from his Southern Mystic
Studios. Sometimes a rebel, always a maverick, Akin has a sound that kicks back against
mainstream Country music trends. And though he frequently recalls outlaw Country and roots-
based Rock & Roll styles, he is never afraid to experiment – sometimes combining unusual
sounds, backward tape loops, or otherworldly noises in an otherwise traditional-sounding
production. The resulting sound is one that reflects his personal motto: “Rooted in the earth,
reaching for the heavens.”

“First and foremost, I want people to enjoy the music,” he said. “I feel like the songs I create are
catchy and the music is infectious, but there’s also something deeper to the lyrics that I think
people can listen to and find hope. I’d like my music to be something that presents a message
that even in our brokenness there’s always a way forward. There’s hope out there and a way to
come together and a way to heal. I think people need a lot of healing right now.”

“Star-Spangled Punch” is slated to drop across all streaming platforms on July 4. Two singles
from the projects – “Move Along” and “Navigator” – are already available for download.
