John Jigg$ takes a step back from world tour to get
intimate with fans on new album ‘Jigg$aw’
LONG ISLAND, NY – Versatility … brilliance … lyricism … epic …
These are just a few of the words that have frequently been used to describe Long Island-based rapper John Jigg$. He’s the kind of rapper who epitomizes versatility – changing from gritty, bar-for-bar hardcore NY hip-hop to melodic, bass-heavy music effortlessly. It’s a unique sound and style that he has parlayed into a pretty impressive career, and now after nearly a decade of success he’s ready to take things to the next level with the release of his new album “Jigg$aw.”
Unlike previous projects, “Jigg$aw” is extremely transparent and introspective. It’s a project that Jigg$ said he’s using to connect more deeply with his fans.
“The whole idea behind it is like a jigsaw puzzle,” he said. “It will be all the different pieces that make up me. I’ve had success, but I definitely want to get my name out there more, and as I do that I want to try to eliminate or bring some light to the separation that’s happening in hip-hop between old-school and modern. Kids today don’t want to hear bars, and the older generation doesn’t want to hear mumble, and as a result people make you choose a lane or put you in a box. Let’s stop putting labels on stuff and if it feels good then just do it and listen to it.”
The first single off the album is a song called “Nights Like This,” produced by SkyCash Beats. It’s a song that takes him back to his childhood and growing up on the streets of River Head, Long Island. That single will be more of a club banger, he said, with the hopes that people will feel good when they hear it and want to get up and dance. Not only will it be featured on his upcoming album, but it will also be featured on Grand Groove Unleashed.
Jigg$ said he’ll follow up “Nights Like This” with a second single, “Every Day,” produced by Grammy-nominated Street Runner. The song is about the hustle and grind of a person’s everyday life, and the things that happen along the way as people try to make it to the weekend. Every day grind has included a whirlwind European tour and sessions in-and-out of a recording studio, creating new music. That’s been his life for the last two years, and through those experiences he said he’s been able to create a fresh sound on this new album that he’s very excited to share with the world.
“I’m such a fan of hip-hop,” he said. “And I remember thinking about rap from a fan standpoint and wondering what I would like to hear. I remember how I first connected with artists and how I would relate to them through their vulnerability and transparency. Nobody wants to hear the super hero rapper who never goes through anything and everything’s perfect. That’s not realistic. I want people to relate to me. I plan on tackling many issues when it comes to life and growing up, and the things that people go through every day. And at the end of the day I hope people hear my music and get a sense that they’re getting good, quality music from somebody they can tell put time and passion and their heart into it.”
