Ty Lashay – Sometimes It Rains

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Soulful singer Ty Lashay inspires global audience
with timely debut single ‘Sometimes it Rains’

ATLANTA, GA – Struggle is a common denominator for most people in the U.S. today… and indeed, most people in the world. In fact, most days it feels as if there’s nothing but struggle, but up-and-coming soul artist Ty Lashay has a message of hope for the world that is both timely and timeless.

The young woman from Atlanta, Georgia has released a new single called “Sometimes It Rains” that is already starting to turn heads in the music industry. The feel-good vibe plays with heavy piano chords intermingled with layered lighter piano melodies against an upbeat, jazzy rhythm – all of which plays perfect counter point to Lashay’s soulful vocals. Listeners will be reminded of the powerful presence of Lauryn Hill or Mary J Blige when they hear Lashay’s voice, and they’d be right to make those comparisons as the words in her songs carry equal depth to those living legends.

“I’m a freestyle songwriter, meaning I’m writing lyrics off the top of my head and I’m writing what I feel,” Lashay said. “So when I’m going through stuff, I write about it. This song is about the struggle – everybody’s struggle – and saying that it’s OK. If people mock you in your struggle or while you’re going through things, that’s OK. Sometimes it rains, but the sun is gonna shine again. If people hate you or mock you or laugh at your struggle, it’s OK. I have struggles. You have struggles. Everybody has struggles. Sometimes we struggle and feel pain, and it’s OK.”

Though Lashay has been a professional songwriter for a few years, this is her debut solo track. She said she’s excited for a wider audience to hear her voice and discover her soulful, emotional and inspiring music. She’s come a long way since writing her first song at the age of 10. Having honed her craft in the thriving musically influential city of Atlanta, Lashay has had the opportunity to travel and perform at some of the top music venues in the U.S. One of the main places she performed at in Atlanta was at the ”Original Apache Cafe “, a legendary venue in that city and abroad. She’s also had the opportunity to record sessions at Atlanta’s historic Patchwerk Studios, which is where “Sometimes it Rains” was recorded. And throughout those experiences, she has developed a unique sound and style that is equal parts original and nostalgic.

“I sound real different from anyone else out there today, but my music is also soulful and will sound familiar in some ways when people listen to it,” she said. “I’m diverse and my music has a real feel – an emotional feel – to it. I’m real truthful with my lyrics and the sound is organic. I write inspiring music but also music to have fun with. Most of the time, I’m trying to send out a message and I feel like what I’m putting out there is speaking to everybody. I recognize the responsibility I have with that and I try to be conscious of the fact that my music is the kind of music that makes you think and feel. At the end of the day, I want my music to be inspirational worldwide. I want to be motivational and reach people and change people’s minds. I want to touch souls and lives and make people think. I feel like I can reach people pretty much everywhere and lift a lot of people’s spirits up so they can forget their problems and troubles and bring a big smile to their faces.”

“Sometimes it Rains” is currently available across all streaming platforms, and Lashay said she plans to follow that up with another single called “I Pray” later this summer.

ShaRu – Summer Tape Intro (Seasons)

Blog, Industry Spotlight, Music, Promo, Videos

Stories from the streets take center stage
with new album from East Coast artist ShaRu

ASBURY PARK, NJ – From the rural streets of Asbury Park, New Jersey comes a one-of-a-kind sound that is sweeping the nation with brilliance.

ShaRu is no stranger to violence and poverty, and like many of the Hip Hop legends before her, her music and artistry paint pictures with words that are equal parts provocative and elegant. Her music poetically tells compelling tales of the struggle. Her variety of sounds and styles weave listeners through a menagerie of genres that pair perfectly with her witty lines and catchy hooks.

This is perhaps best displayed with her newest album “Summer Tape,” due to release across all streaming platforms on July 4. It’s a gritty, Hip Hop-infused album that mixes up-tempo dance vibes with mellow cruising vibes for the kind of product that will linger in the listeners ears for years to come.

“It’s a crazy time we’re going through, and this is a project that will help people walk through that,” ShaRu said. “It’s a project that tells stories from my life, painting pictures of different events I’ve been around or seen or read about. At the end of the day, I just want my music to be known for storytelling, collaboration with instruments and music, and for its passion. I hope to be able to spark some passion for the next generation.”

The debut single from the album, “Summer Tape Intro (Seasons),” has already been released and is starting to elicit high praises from insiders in the industry. Serving as an introduction to the album yet to come, it’s a song that showcases ShaRu’s unique rapping ability and her range of talents as a producer, instrumental musician and all-around artist. It’s also a sound and style that fans can come to expect from her team, which includes other artists such as BGF, King Dy Darap Bear, and MusicTend.

“What sets me apart is I’m not afraid to go outside the box when it comes to Hip Hop,” she said. “I explore Jazz, and my favorite music is Classical. I like playing with a lot of different sounds. My favorite instrument is the saxophone, and I used that and the flute and some other instruments on this album. I also can play the drums and I’ve been into music since I was about 4 years old. With choirs and school and church and band … music has always been a part of my life. I just have a passion for music. It’s my first love. And when I was around 7 or 8 and learned how to put rhyming words to beats, I didn’t look back from there.”

ShaRu said one of the biggest personal drives for her to succeed is the fulfillment of a promise she made to her mother, Marlene Morris, who passed away three years ago. She said the album was supposed to be released back then but she had put it on the back burner and walked away from it for a time. She’s now ready to finish what she started and hopes to honor her mother with the accomplishment of such a meaningful project.

Cel Escobar – Devil Want My Soul

Blog, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Hot new rapper Cel Escobar displays impressive flow with new EP ‘4 For 4’

TRENTON, NJ – There’s a lot of versatility and nuance to the music coming from new Hip Hop wonder Cel Escobar, and he attributes much of that to the upbringing of his father, James Oliver and his grandmother, Gladys Oliver.

Growing up in Trenton, New Jersey, Cel was rarely away from either of those inspirational people. While his father was at work, Cel stayed with his grandmother. Much of what he did was with her, and she – along with his father –taught him what it meant to be a man of integrity and to care for others around him. Between the two of them, they taught young Cel a love for music and the right way to dream for the future. And though most of his youth was dedicated to sports – including two years playing baseball in college – it seemed only natural to pursue a career in music once he finished college. In many ways, it was a fulfillment of promises his father and grandmother had spoken over him for much of his life – promises that come to fruition with his forthcoming new album “Blessed and Highly Favored.”

“My grandma gave me the title name because she has always felt I was blessed,” Cel said. “She’d always tell me I was blessed and that I should always thank God for what I have and that has always stuck with me. She also has always told me that I’m highly favored. My father raised me and gave me my foundation, and I believe my versatility as an artist comes from him because he had me listening to all music genres. But where I’m from, it’s rare to have talent as a musician, and my grandma has always pointed me out as one of the highly favored ones to make it.”

That inspirational message is one Cel hopes to share with the rest of the world through his music. Primarily a rapper, this young musician takes inspiration from all walks of life – whether it be societal issues or stories from his life or even dreams of the future. He’s versatile as an artist but also adheres to the old school Hip Hop style that put that genre on the map in the first place. And more than anything, he takes pride in his ability to rap at the highest level.

“That’s really what separates me a lot from anyone else,” he said. “A lot of things inspire me and I can write and rap about anything. If something really excites me, I’ll rap about it. Or I might rap about my scenery, or something I like, or something like the George Floyd thing. A lot of times it also depends on the mood I’m in.”

That versatility will be put on display first through a four-song EP called “4 For 4” which is currently available across all streaming platforms. Starting with an intro that’s perfect for a summer vibe, the next three songs take listeners on a bit of a ride through Cel’s creative process. With “Devil Want My Soul,” Cel encourages people to go the extra mile in all things.

“Don’t sell yourself short,” he said. “Push to the limit. That’s the message of that song, and it ties back into the full album.”

With “Strictly for the Trenches,” Cel said he lets fans get an inside look into his evolution as an artist. This is the first song he wrote and recorded, and he said he opted to include it on the album as an homage to one of his friends who is featured on the track. The message of the song is inspired by the poverty and environment that surrounded him at the time.

The last song on the EP is “Ride With Me” featuring the female artist Mya. Cel describes it as a mellowed, relaxed song that is perfect for cruising down the highway. A music video for this single and “Devil Want My Soul” are due to drop before the end of the summer.

Troy Remedy – “Gratitude” (Feat. Bizzy Bone)

Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

New single by Texas Hip Hop artist, Troy Remedy conveys genuine Gratitude

DALLAS, TX – Troy Remedy is a thoughtful musician who pours his heart and soul into creating music while he pursues peace of mind. Music has been Troy’s therapy for as long as he can remember. “As I got older,” the artist said, “I couldn’t listen to music any more. I had to make it.”

As a grateful survivor of life’s trials and tribulations, Troy expresses the appreciation for what we have at this moment in his new single, “Gratitude.” Despite what is going on in the world,

“Gratitude” talks about being thankful that we are still breathing and are able to fight another day.

A serious creator who values quality over quantity, Troy delivers smooth and soulful Hip Hop which is characterized by superb production with clear and meaningful lyrics. His new single was recorded in Dallas but the music video was shot in Houston and features legend Bizzy Bone from the Bone Thugs-n-Harmony fame. As someone who grew up listening to this group, Troy feels extremely grateful to have someone of Bizzy‘s stature featured on both the “Gratitude” song and music video.

The new single, which dropped on May 22nd, has a more upbeat feel than Troy’s previous single, “Which Way To Go.” While that track was about finding your way, “Gratitude” is about “being thankful that you’re still able to look for your way. Some people stopped looking a long time ago,” the artist explained. “There are some people who aren’t here to look any more.”

Filmed in Houston’s MacGregor and Mason Parks plus throughout the city, the “Gratitude” music video was released along with the single. Showing murals of several area artists, the video pays homage to those who set the foundation for what Rap is all about in the Houston area.

Troy is already working on his next project, a song titled “Next To You.” This track is about the give and take in a relationship. The song talks about “trying to figure out where you stand with each other, how far you can ride for each other,” Troy said, “and how long it will go before the wheels fall off.”

Born in West Texas but raised by the whole state, artist Troy Remedy has always been a kind of underdog, which is also the title of one of the Lone Star native’s strongest tracks. His songs are derived from the golden era of Hip Hop and Soul music, but incorporate his contemporary flows and ideas. Giving it from the gut, Troy speaks on issues with an intelligent and articulate voice that hits hard and commands attention. Listeners have responded well to his relatable message, awesome production, and dope beats.

Rasheed Jamal – Urban Decay

Blog, ME Blog, Music, Videos

West Coast artist explores hidden undercurrents of life on new album ’22 Grams’

PORTLAND, OR – There’s a little known phenomenon among medical professionals that upon death, the human body almost always drops weight by 22 grams. Religious people and those of spiritual nature believe this to be the soul leaving the body. It’s a phenomenon debated and examined by people the world over, and it’s an idea that Portland-based musician Rasheed Jamal has wrestled with for many years. In fact, it’s such an intriguing notion to the young artist that he had to create an album about it.

That album is “22 Grams / iAMTHATiAM.” Released on May 22, it is the culmination of work that he began in 2012 with his first project, “My Beautiful Ugly,” in which he first mentioned the 22 Grams phenomenon. Since that time, he has researched different beliefs of the world, and the music that has been developed from that research now makes its inspirational advance on this new album.

“I’ve spent eight years working on this project, and along the way, a lot of songs came and went or got worked and reworked,” Rasheed said. “At times I was ready to just give up on it but I could never shake it. I had to do this album and get this idea out the way. I needed to get it out. So in a lot of ways it has served as a light at the end of the tunnel for me, and it has been an ever-present aspiration through a lot of different times, both good and bad. I can’t wait for people to hear this because I’m very proud of it. More than anything, it’s about the idea of not giving up – that’s what it has meant to me and I know it will mean that way to a lot of other people as well.”

The ideas presented in the album will also be challenging for a lot of listeners, Rasheed said. That ability to speak about things that others will often avoid is what helps him to stand out in the music industry. While other artists are creating cookie-cutter music that sounds like what’s already playing on the radio, Rasheed is working to create music that sounds different with lyrics that not only touch on ideas that people think about when they’re home alone, but to which everyone can relate in one way or another.

“I read somewhere that the more you can be true to yourself, the more universal you become,” Rasheed said. “I tend to look to artists who have messages that transcended where they were at the time. Marvin Gay had projects like that, or Deangelo or Jay-Z or Tupac – all of their work, at one point or another, transcended where they were at the time. And that’s because they were being very true to themselves. That’s what my music is. I’m me and there’s only one me. I feel like I’ve been amassing a nice discography of work, and when people get exposed to it, they really love it. People remember how you make them feel, and I’ve heard from a lot of people who have listened to my last few projects that I’ve been making people feel more understood. That’s my music. That’s my goal. I don’t always want to feel like the big time artist. Sometimes I just want to be the dude who is relatable. You get that with this album and through the music, I have these transitions that make sense and lead you from one emotion to another so that people can feel something different than that hit of dopamine that most other music today is aiming for.”

Rasheed said a music video for the first single from the album, “Urban Decay Part II,” was released on May 14The video was directed by Seena Haddad and shot by Mohammed Alkhadher

Rasheed is also working on other videos to release over the next few months. Four other albums that he created over the past year are also available across all streaming platforms, including “My Beautiful Ugly,” “SANKOFA,” “Indigo Child” and “Messiah Complex.”

Tom Margetson – Save My Soul

Blog, ME Blog, Music, Videos

Multitalented London entertainer Tom Margetson releases timely new single ‘Save My Soul’

LONDON, UK – Tom Margetson is a name you need to have on your radar. This one-time professional rugby player has taken his celebrity status as an international athlete and is using it to propel himself into a career as a multitalented entertainer. Operating out of London, England, Margetson isn’t only a recording artist whose unique sound and style demands attention. He also has the lead role in a major show filming in 2021 which will put him immediately on the map.

He’s on the cusp of major success, and any fan who starts to follow him now can say, “I knew him when …” He’s launching his career as an entertainer with a single called “Save My Soul,” which is set to drop on all streaming platforms May 31. Mixed and mastered at the famed Abbey Road Studios, this single is one that takes an honest look at depression and uses Margetson’s transparent lyrics to connect with people all over the world who are dealing with emotional darkness during these troubling times.

“It’s a song about being desperate for someone to help you when you’re at your lowest moments,” Margetson said. “You’re pleading for someone to help you … anyone. You just need that nice gesture from someone to get you through that day. It’s the first song I ever wrote, and I wrote it at a time when I was dealing with a lot of mental illness associated with head injuries I received from playing rugby. I had to walk away from the sport because of so many concussions, and there have been days that had been really low for me. As I learned more about depression, I discovered that the biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in almost every country is suicide – and that’s especially true now as we’re dealing with this global epidemic. If I can reach some of those people and let them know they’re not alone, then I’ll feel like I’ve done something good with my music.”

Margetson said music was literally the thing that saved him during his darkest times – and that started even before his time as a professional athlete. Growing up in South West London, England, he said Rugby was one of the ways to distract himself from the difficult situations that arose, but music was also something that served as a healthy emotional outlet. He continued to create music on his own, even while playing professional sports. And when he began to deal with the side effects of his concussions, music helped him control his chaotic emotions.

“When we were younger, I had my rugby but I needed a distraction that wasn’t so competitive,” Margetson said. “I needed a release somewhere that was creative and I could be sensitive and open. As much as I was the big, tough rugby player, I was also a person with feelings and emotions. Instead of locking them down so tightly, I needed to release that emotional side of me. So in a lot of ways I feel my music can fill that space for people who are tied up and too tight and feel like they can’t release their emotions, or who are too busy with their lives to connect with someone. We all need that release. If I can help people do that even for just three-and-a-half minutes, then I’d love to be able to do so. If my music can help 10 people feel that connection, I’d be more than happy. I have no dreams of being a massive Pop Star, but if I can touch as many people as I possibly can, then I’m happy with that. That’s what my music is about – helping as many people as possible and connecting with as many people as I can.”

In addition to “Save My Soul,” Margetson is also preparing to release a second single called “Touch” on the last Friday of June. He’ll release another single every two weeks after that, building up to a full album release in September or October.

Dorren Pierre – California Burning

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Videos

Fusion of different genres creates intriguing signature sound for Dorren Pierre’s new album ‘Therapy’

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Dorren Pierre is an artist out of Massachusetts with a unique sound. An artist who prides himself in changing flows and riding any beat he touches, he’s about to show the world his standout skill with his new album “Therapy.”

Every song Dorren makes creates a new vibe, and the past four years have been spent perfecting those vibes to an extent that the final product is nothing short of mastery. New fans will be unable to deny the bouncy, wavy, Jamaican and Urban flows that reverberate off this catchy new project from one of the music industry’s fastest-rising talents.

The album is one that Dorren said was first inspired by a situation that happened with his father a few years ago, who was involved in a situation that required him to be deported from the U.S. Because of the difficulty of that period of time in Dorren’s life, music became a constant therapeutic companion and out of that commiseration came “Therapy.”

“Music was very therapeutic at the time – it always had been but at this particular time, it was especially so,” he said. “Music just resonated with me very deeply and besides the situation with my father, I also went through a couple of different relationship issues during that time. I had a couple of friends who were also going through tough times in their lives, and we came together and decided to dive deep into our craft and find therapy through what we want to do.”

Dorren said the sound that came out of those sessions is something that is simultaneously progressive and throwback. The fusion of different genres – from Reggae to Motown to Pop – comes together in a unique way across and undercurrent of Hip Hop so that every song on the album is one that creates new intrigue from the listener. Singles like “Big Mon Sound (Prod. @d_com_poser)  and “California Burning” (Prod. @dilligang & @cstaggz05) are perfect examples of this engaging signature style from Dorren. “Big Mon Sound” is definitively Dorren’s display of his skills as a rapper, complete with heavy bars and lyrics that share the story of his life over the past few years. “California Burning” on the other hand, is heavy on instrumentation – especially saxophone – and has an upbeat, almost dancehall-like vibe.

“All of my music is either stories from my life or my friends’ lives, or maybe what’s going on in the world,” Dorren said. “I try to always be different and give a message to people, but also have it be fun. I want my music to be something you can dance to but also sit and think to and catch a vibe to. And I don’t want all my songs to be just one type of energy, so I try to mix it up from song to song. At the end of the day, I want to be known as someone who, like most other people, has a passion and a dream. The whole purpose of me getting into music was to just let people know they can do something else. There isn’t a set rule in life. Do whatever you want to do that makes you happy. You can rule your life and set your own rules and go wherever you want.

Dotty B – Hurt locker

Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

New East Coast artist causes ripples across industry with debut album ‘Daymare’

ROANOKE, VA – Dotty B is a Bronx-born beat maker who’s lifelong love of music has driven him to create an archive of songs that are about to become hits off his debut album “Daymare.”

Described as a “versatile piece of art,” Dotty B’s album features a different vibe on every song in an effort to not only show off his diverse skillset, but also to connect with a wide audience. It’s a project that he said stems from his journey to realize his dreams of becoming a successful musician, and he said the songs are filled with messages that he knows will resonate with listeners all over the world.

“The term Daymare comes from the idea of having a nightmare while you’re awake,” he said. “This album tackles a lot of my hopes and fears and dreams, and it’s just the beginning of more music to come. I want my albums to be a continuous thing, so the next release later this year will be called ‘Daydreams’ and will be more upbeat and vibey. This first album has a darker, heavier tone because it’s me expressing myself and the events I’ve been through or the things I want to go through. That said, there’s a song for everybody and for every type of vibe on there.”

The first single from the project is a song called “Hurt Locker” which Dotty B said was inspired from watching the film of the same name. It’s basically a song about how life can oftentimes be like trying to keep a bomb from exploding, which is the chief plot of the movie “Hurt Locker.” Dotty B uses that metaphor throughout the song while displaying his skill as a lyricist and producer. He said his signature style is one that takes the popular sounds of today’s industry and mixes it with his own experimental sound in a way that is “more clever and more intelligent.”

“I want to bring that type of depth back to music,” he said. “A lot of music today is too simple, but the sound is great. I want to tap into that sound but bring a depth to the lyrical content I’m writing. When people hear Dotty B, I want them to hit repeat over and over again because they’re trying to understand what I’m saying in the song. I want to remain humble while also trying to be a good influence on a lot of people. I’ll never be a guy who teaches the wrong thing, though sometimes I speak on wrong things if they’ve happened to me. But that’s always with the intention of influencing and inspiring others.”

In addition to “Hurt Locker,” Dotty B has another single called “Just Woke Up” which is also from the album and will be featured strongly this summer. A music video for that song is slated to drop before the end of summer and will serve as a kind of springboard into more music from the artist to come later this year.

Mikka Simone – 3:32 (“Synchronicity)

New music from Mikka Simone launches a distinct Raw n B style for listeners to bounce to

ATLANTA, GA – Experienced singer, dancer and performing artist, Mikka Simone has been thrilling audiences for over ten years. As a singer, she delivers a raw form of R&B which she refers to as “Rhythm n Bounce.” Authentic and captivating, her music is characterized by moving lyrics and intriguing instrumentation choices.

Mikka released her latest single, “3:32” (“Synchronicity”) earlier this month. After putting the piece together, she discovered that she had been born at that time. The song is about moving forward no matter what, especially when things are not working out as planned in relationships, business or any circumstance where you are being held back. “It’s just a matter of moving forward,” Mikka said, “and learning the lesson within the lesson.” She worked on the song’s initial concept with the producer from her previous project and recorded some of the track with him in Atlanta. After deciding on a new direction, she finished recording in Memphis.

Mikka is also getting ready to release her second full project, “The One Time,” which will feature “3:32” and other new music recorded in Atlanta and Memphis. The project focuses on taking chances – from going on a blind date to skydiving. It’s about risk taking and reaping the rewards. She has 14 songs recorded for “The One Time” and is narrowing down to the final ten tracks before releasing the project sometime later this year.

Also recorded in Atlanta and Memphis, the song “Fly Away” may be released as a combination of the two recordings or as two individual tracks. It has a bounce to it, with a laid back chill vibe for enjoying a night out on the town without distractions from anyone. Another track, “My Man” unfolds a crush that one may have, or an experience one may want to dive into with a significant other.

Mikka Simone’s extensive performance experience includes dance and theatre which gives her quite an advantage. She knows what to do onstage and in front of a camera, illustrated by her TEDx visual improvisation performance which can be seen on her YouTube channel. From all of her featured videos, it is clear that she knows how to convert an audience’s energy into a pumped up performance.

Through her music, Mikka is telling her story from her own unique perspective. “I believe my experiences have molded me into the person that I am and the person that I’m becoming, speaking out my higher self on a constant basis,” she said. “I’m just driving into that, allowing it to happen.”

Influenced by all the greats, Mikka’s strongest music influences are Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, Gucci Mane, Ciara, J Cole, Nipsey Hustle, Ke Ke Palmer, plus Nina Simone for her lyricism. She also looks up to Maya Angelou (who dabbled in music before becoming a world renowned poet) when it comes to fearless expression.

Mikka likes to keep very busy. She is shooting the music video for “3:32.” Its release will be closely followed by “The One Time” project. Additionally, Mikka is working on another major project titled “Mood AF” which promises to express a variety of moods.
