Shocks Band Blends Pop and Jazz in “One Hit Wonder” Album

FLAGLER BEACH – The term “one-hit wonder” usually refers to an artist that has a hit and never releases another single to reach the previous song’s popularity. That is not the case for Shocks Band and their latest album, “One Hit Wonder.”

The ten-track LP is packed full of fan-favorite original songs written and performed by Eric Whitman.

“There really wasn’t anything new out in 2020 and 2021,” explained Eric Whitman. “So, I figured this was a good time for me to do an album because, with the pandemic, I was stuck home. So, I wrote all the songs.”

“One Hit Wonder” is 100% studio work compared to the Shock Band’s 2011 album, “A Dedication to Alan Zill,” containing live tracks.

Mixing pop music with some New Orleans style jazz, Whitman’s latest album hits all the right notes and gains popularity on streaming platforms and CD sales. While many fans enjoy the ease of streaming music, the “One Hit Wonder” CD is unique with its hand-drawn cover art by Whitman’s daughter Danielle Whitman. Additionally, liner notes credit the musicians who play on the album’s tracks, which fans do not get to see when streaming music.

“I had music producers Nicole and Courtney with me in the studio, and I played with several other young musicians on the saxophone and lead guitar,” explained the Miami native who plays rhythm and bass guitar on the album.

With its signature guitar riffs and some sweet melodies, the single “I Don’t Know (Voice)” is getting the attention of pop and rock lovers. The album contains two versions because when it’s good, why choose just one version – right?

“Everybody seems to like it. It’s a really good song,” said Whitman. “I wrote the song because every time I turned the news on, there were all these unknowns. We don’t know about this; we don’t know about that. The song just came to me, and I knew I had to record it.”

When asked if he got any of his questions answered, Whitman replied with a chuckle, “You’ll have to listen to the song; maybe it’ll explain it.”

While “I Don’t Know (Voice)” is picking up traction on streaming platforms, Whitman said it is not the only “One Hit Wonder” song getting noticed. The album’s diversity appeals to music fans who enjoy rock, pop, and jazz.

“It all depends on how I wake up in the morning. It’s like whatever comes. It’s just mine. I play it,” explained Whitman about his writing style. “I just go with the flow.”

“One Hit Wonder” also contains “New Orleans,” a jazzy tune with a haunting tenor sax, while “Starlite” showcases a mandolin that “kicks butt.” But Whitman does not put his writing into a box to please fans.

“When people see the ‘One Hit Wonder’ cover, they want to play it. I want them to have fun and enjoy the music.”

Little Moses – The Rain Came Falling Down

Jazz, Funk and Blues adopt modern-day twist on sophomore album from hit-maker Little Moses Jones

DENVER, CO – Little Moses Jones has always been an overachiever when it comes to music. At 5 years old he answered music’s calling before his feet could even touch the floor when sitting at a piano bench, and for the next 30 years he continued his devotion to learning and perfecting as many facets of the art and industry as possible. Today he’s become known as one of the most expressive musicians in the Jazz, R&B, Funk and Blues genres, and his latest album “The Rain Came Falling Down” is a blast of amazing sounds and vibes that feature award-winning artists from Gladys Knight, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Dotsero.

Overachiever? Indeed. But if this new project shows anything it’s that Little Moses isn’t resting on his laurels. This second funk and blues-oriented project is a powerful expression of big band music perfect for the atmosphere and environment of today’s music industry. Not only does it indicate that there are many more good things to come from Little Moses over the next decades, but it also shows the world an artist at the top of his game presenting a mastery of his art.

The debut single from the project is the perfect example of how Little Moses is tapped in at the height of his game. Taking its name from the project, the single “The Rain Came Falling Down” features artists Tim Huston, Jazzie J, and Tony Exum Jr. The song originated with Huston, who at the time had been writing a song for the legendary Anita Baker. He’d been wanting to work with Little Moses for a while, and when the latter provided some music for Huston to listen to, things just clicked.

“He put his lyrics with my music and when they came together it just turned out nice,” Little Moses said. “It has a nice soul, funk, contemporary sound, with lyrics that talk about relationships and splitting ways and moving on. I’ve always been a big band guy with that old-school, big type of sound. I like to play with the funk and old-school sounds, but then add in new elements to create a fresh vibe. You can hear a lot of influences, like Earth Wind & Fire, Kool and the Gang, and Bruno Mars. I just like good old music – the kind of music that used to mean something. Nowadays I feel like a lot of music doesn’t have a lot of meaning, and I want to get back to that true essence. I’m providing great music for people to listen to and enjoy.”

If his accolades are any indication, fans all over the world are loving the music that he’s bringing. Through his career he’s mastered multiple instruments – all of the various saxophones, piano, tuba, drums and other percussion instruments, and more – and he’s built and directed dozens of highly successful dance and party bands. He’s performed more than 1,500 live concerts, and managed and assisted many other artists toward successful careers. His previous album “Legendary” hit No. 1 on the Latin Jazz R&B Funk & Blues charts, and his radio show LMSS Radio has thousands of regular listeners from all over the world.

Following the release of “The Rain Came Falling Down,” Little Moses said he plans on releasing a couple more singles later this year – “Making Crazy” and “Perfect For Me.” To listen to his music, or to follow him on social media, please visit the following links:

Disco Sundays – Cloud9

Disco Sundays has fans dreaming of better days with new single ‘Cloud9’

BALTIMORE, MD – Soul, Funk, R&B, Jazz and Disco come together in profound new ways on the debut album “Sending Love” from the new group Disco Sundays. With a sound that’s often described as nostalgic yet progressive, Disco Sundays pays homage to the catchy sounds of the past by combining elements of previous eras with sounds and styles of today. The undeniable swing of the drums and a signature soulful touch in the melodies pairs perfectly with a healthy dose of funky bass lines, making Disco Sundays one of the hottest new acts in the music industry today.

The standout single “Cloud9” from the new project is perhaps the best example of Disco Sunday’s original sound. With a mesmerizing and hypnotic melodic flow that plays against bouncy 808s, the song hooks listeners from the beginning and invites them into an unending flow that takes them on a ride and refuses to let them off the tracks until it reaches the end of the line. It almost has a Bone Thugs N Harmony kind of feel to it, though with more of a throw-back vibe that evokes ethereal emotions along the way. As one of the only songs on the album with vocals – from featured artist Irie Buchanan – it certainly stands out from the others and serves as a great introduction to the one-of-a-kind sound and style coming from Disco Sundays.

“It’s a favorite among most who hear it,” said Melvin Thomas – the music producer, musician, audio engineer, DJ, sound designer, and digital artist behind the creation of Disco Sundays. “Basically it’s about when the world tries to knock you out of your zone and you have the willpower to fight and stand up for what you believe in. It’s a song that shows off what we’re trying to do. Disco Sundays has a production style that has a lot of kicks and crazy basslines. The name describes a lot.”

The name is so powerful, in fact, that Thomas said Disco Sundays plays to reinforce that vibe by releasing a new single on Soundcloud every Sunday for the rest of the year. They’ll start with “Pick Me Up” on March 29, followed by “Nightcrawl” on April 4. Thomas said it’s a strategy that Disco Sundays wants to employ so as to keep listeners engaged consistently every week and continue to build momentum over time as they share their music with the world. Eventually the group will sell vintage-like merchandise and offer their music on vinyl instead of CDs. It’s an approach similar to artists such as The Gorillaz, Flying Lotus or Thundercat, just to name a few.
