Mic Nickels – Rappers Don’t Smile

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

Music industry vet pokes fun at the ‘scowling rapper’ with upbeat new track ‘Rappers Don’t Smile’

NEW YORK, NY – With more than two decades in the music industry, Mic Nickels has become an inspiration for underground indie artists. His latest hit single is a nod to that pedigree and an homage to the rap lifestyle. “Rappers Don’t Smile” is an upbeat, fun track that examines the phenomenon of the scowling rapper. Debuting as the first single from his forthcoming “Bars For Days” album, the song features a bright piano melody laid against an energetic and playful beat. It’s a fun track that pokes fun at the “scowl” for which many rappers around the world have become known. And the video – directed by Luis “Fuego” Moya – utilizes cameos from many underground rappers showing off their meanest “ice grills,” including Blacastan, Masai Bey, BMS, L.I.F.E.LONG, Mr. Cord, J SWISS, Whichcraft, Discrete, Brimstone, Emaculit, Quest the Unborn Child, Saint Joseph, Dik Dastardly, Keith Elite, Rude 100, Odyssey Fluxx, and Ekym 1536. Produced by the notorious Colombeyond, the song is easily one of the most fun and upbeat hip-hop tracks fans will ever hear.

“For me, hip-hop was meant to be fun,” Nickels said. “It’s a break from the struggle. Somehow over the years it became the struggle, but I wanted to bring back that feeling of fun. I’ve gone to a lot of open mics, and everyone is always so hard and angry. I wanted to examine the phenomenon of the scowling rapper and break that down. The irony is that when I was writing the song I was taking a creative writing class and the teacher wanted me to talk about smiling. In my head I was like, ‘Man, rappers don’t smile!’ And I realized it was pretty hilarious and perfect. And then the beat Colombeyond sent me was called “Smile” – which he paired with this old, obscure sample from South America from the 70s that was light and fun – and it just came together for me all in one sitting. That happens sometimes for me. Those are the magic moments – when you’re inspired and you can just do the whole track at once. I’m really proud of the song. It fits in the boom-bap vein, which kind of encapsulates who I am. And if you just randomly met me one day you might catch me smiling because I’m generally a positive dude.”

Nickels said he plans to drop a couple of singles from “Bars For Days” before releasing the full album on Dec. 10. “Rappers Don’t Smile” will be released across all streaming platforms on Nov. 5, followed by “Sky City” on Dec. 3.

Dez Mac – Know About It

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Dez Mac uses trials of the past to spur others on toward achieving their dreams

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Hard circumstances make for tough lessons learned, but sometimes it’s those hard times that end up defining the legacy we leave. That’s the case for West Coast artist Dez Mac, whose time living in a homeless shelter for a few months after first moving to San Francisco became the spark of inspiration he needed to pursue his dreams.

Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Dez Mac moved to San Francisco about four years ago with an idea to pursue his passion of making music professionally. He’d graduated from college with a degree in electrical engineering, but never found a job in that sector – instead settling for a job as a plumber. He hated it, and one day decided to make the leap and move to San Francisco. But he had no money and no support, and so the first three-and-a-half months in that new city were spent in a homeless shelter. But it was there that he found his muse, so to speak, writing about his experiences and sharing his songs with the other residents of the shelter.

“I initially wasn’t sure people would like my music, but the people there loved it so much and one girl took me to a place called The Sunset where I did a recording, and everything just took off,” Dez Mac said. “Since then I’ve done more than 50 shows and I did my own tour in Atlanta and Las Vegas. I’ve been offered distribution deals. I’ve worked with producers like Zaytoven and DJ Fresh. I’ve been featured on Bow Wow’s mixtape. I went from living in a shelter to being a successful artist and touring all over the world. It’s been a crazy journey and experience, but it has all lead me to being able to invest in my music and live this dream.”

Dez Mac is set to release his newest hit single on Oct. 22 when he drops “Know About It.” Inspired by the gun violence and police brutality of recent years, the song explores a number of social ills and challenges listeners to do something about the wrongs they see around them.

“My goal is to spread peace and love through my music,” Dez said. “In all of my songs I’m trying to get across a message. This one has more of an up-tempo beat and it gives you a real feel and a good look inside my life. It’s powerful because it’s relevant in what’s going on in the world and what’s going on in people’s lives. It’s lyrical and enjoyable, but it also has that wow factor that people are going to recognize as something different than anything else they’re hearing out there right now. Mostly, though, I’m just trying to bring a positive vibe that inspires people to go for their dreams and to realize that no one is perfect, but we can all strive to be better.”

Di’Atti – Demons

Di’Atti Debuts with High Energy “Demons”

LOS ANGELES – Sometimes, you just know you want to be a musician. That was the case for Di’Atti, a self-proclaimed nomad born in Houston, raised in Nebraska, and calls home Mar Vista, a suburb of Los Angeles.

“One day, I just sat down and thought that I’ve always liked music. I heard a lot of music, and sometimes the lyrics just didn’t match for me. I wanted the lyrics to say what was in my head. So, I started to write a verse here and there.”

And that was the beginning of Di’Atti’s career as an artist.

His first EP, “Off to New Hampshire,” is currently available on streaming platforms and getting noticed by listeners attracted to his energy-packed rap and rhythm style of singing.

For Di’Atti, writing lyrics is not just taking pen to paper – it is life-changing. “I get a feeling that goes through my whole body, the energy and everything with it. I hear a beat, and it sparks something in my head. I just go off, and the words come,” he explained.

Unlike other artists who simply rap to the beat, Di’Atti changes the music landscape with innovative flows and hooks that dig deep in listeners’ souls, making them want more.

When asked about his specific tone and sound, he said, “It’s a unique pitch. I’ve always been told that it stands out well from others and is very distinct. Maybe it is because my voice isn’t exactly like anyone else’s.”

That individuality is one key ingredient to “Off to New Hampshire.” The EP contains seven tracks which Di’Atti refers to as a “mixed tape” because each song is different in style and tone but maintains his pitch and perfection for writing lyrics. “You can hype up to it and just relax to it. It has a little bit of everything,” he said.

Getting noticed by listeners worldwide, “Demons” is gaining traction and airplay as new listeners discover Di’Atti.

“Everybody in life has that point, where they finally get to, where they want to be. But there’s just something that could be in the closet – a demon. Demons are a good word to describe what people will be going through. It’s just something inside that always aches at them,” he explained.

Taking a page from his nomadic lifestyle, Di’Atti added, “I want people to listen to it and be in tune with themselves. So, they can relate to whatever that problem may be.”

Another track on his debut EP is “HollyWood,” the perfect song to play while driving or at a party to get things started with its deep vibes and decent raps.

Looking ahead to the future, Di’Atti said, “I just want y’all to feel good when listening to my music. I feel good making it, and I hope the energy I put into it reflects. Hopefully, you get the same good energy that I felt. If we can all tune in and come into sync, the energy is going to be wild. I’m all for good vibrations.”

Craig Watson (Unwanted) – Rodeo

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Unwanted Begins with Clips of Greatness to Come

PHILADELPHIA – Fifteen-year-old Unwanted is laying down some melodies and raps that have fans wanting more.

Born and raised in the City of Brotherly Love, Unwanted takes a unique approach to enter the music industry. Instead of dropping a few singles, he is posting short clips of his raps varying in style and themes on Instagram and YouTube, all in the hopes of attracting the attention of hip-hop rapper fans – and it is working.

“I got more to bring, and this is only a portion of what I can do,” said Unwanted. “There is more to come in the future. It’s somethin’ way bigger than what meets the eye. I’m different.”

While other rappers are lacing their lyrics with profanity, Unwanted said it is a choice to rap clean and make sure that he never disrespects people, especially women. Perhaps his grandmother, who he affectionately refers to as Mom-Mom, had that influence on him. She has raised him since his birth. Hence the name “Unwanted” is about his biological parents, but not Mom-Mom and his fans.

“When it comes to lyrical content from me, it’s like I’m always trying to get a point across, not only to the audience but myself as well,” he explained.

By using a rhythm perfectly sprinkled with a cadence of a never-ending vibe, Unwanted creates a poetic melody with each rap.

When asked what sets him apart from other young rappers, Unwanted said, “My lyrical content with my age, and the topics I’m talking about and the way I come across is me. When it comes to technical things like delivery and cadence, it’s just me. You know, it’s never fiction when it comes down to tracks.”

Currently, Unwanted has hit on various topics for his songs, including his father, growing up in Philadelphia, and the life experiences he’s endured. Taking his cues from rappers like Eminem, Unwanted is drawn to songs that tell stories. “I love artists like that because I look at not only when it comes to certain tracks that they’ve created but their life and its life stories. They also represent themselves and their music, so that’s what’s so dope about it,” he added.

However, when this teen reflects on his life and what he hopes to accomplish, Unwanted said, “I’ve wanted to be an artist for a long time. Honestly, as I kept doing it, I noticed that it made me happy, and now it’s like a piece of me. Someday, when I’m in a good position, maybe I can change a great amount of people and their perspectives on life.”

The perspective is about to change – and soon – with the release of his first single, “Rodeo.” After getting a solid footing in the music industry, Unwanted is ready to take the next step.

“Rodeo” will drop in a few weeks, showcasing Unwanted’s trademark cadence and metaphoric rhymes. With additional songs to follow, Unwanted is going to be a wanted man by his fans.

Rock Star Gang – Mobbin

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

RichardTheRockStar Grinds Out New Era Hip Hop with the Rockstar Gang

JACKSON – Northern California native RichardTheRockStar (RTRS) has always been making music his way. From messing around with instruments in elementary school to home producing licks at age 15, RTRS creates music with no rules. Now, the artist, writer, producer, and businessman is making a splash with “Mobbin” as he redefines the hip-hop genre.

“With New Era Hip Hop, we try to be culturally diverse and include people and sounds and add influences from all walks of life,” explained RTRS. “When hip hop came out, it just clicked on where it pulled its roots from. But it got to a point where people stopped trying to be original as much. Then it was cut-and-paste from there. We are trying to change that.”

The “we” refers to is the Rockstar Gang, comprised of friends, Baked Beka and Jshxtta. The trio creates an eclectic mixture of sounds against New Era Hip Hop that forms an organic and unique sound showcasing their diversity and rebelliousness.

Baked Beka, a social media influencer from the Bay Area, is a model and street survivor who has started rapping with the group. A longtime friendship with RTRS has blossomed into a confident and sassy rapper that fans adore.

Jshxtta brings his talents to the studio by experimenting and mixing music to create the group’s authentic Bay Area sound. Coupled with RTRS’s energy and persistence, the Rockstar Gang’s sound is defined by trust, experimentation, and passion.

“We all are free to be who we are,” said RTRS. “That’s the most important thing of being an artist. No matter what life puts in front of you, no matter what opposition, no matter what kind of scary circumstances, you must stick to yourself and your heart. When you do that, you build something more powerful than any of that. And that’s what the Rockstar Gang is.”

Showcasing their talents, the trio’s latest single, “Mobbin,” is gaining popularity on streaming platforms, and its high-energy music video continues the Rockstar Gang’s story.

“‘Mobbin’ is a vision that we’ve had as friends for a long time and just sticking to the plan to what works to the money,” explained RTRS.

The “vision” is what sets “Mobbin” apart from other songs. It is the unity of the Rockstar Gang and their talents that light up during the track.

“The way that we come together, especially on the third verse where we start going back and forth with what happened and sharing it, is telling a story together,” he said. “If you watch our videos in order, it’s a storyline, almost like a TV series, but it’s with our lives. You watch it, and it all ties together.”

Their story began with the debut single, “Bananas,” and continues to showcase each artist’s unique attributes that they bring to the gang. Instead of being the cookie-cutting group where one artist is featured, the Rockstar Gang turns the spotlight on each member. Much like the Black-Eyed Peas, where the group comprises diverse members, the Rockstar Gang has a mix of talent, styles, and up-tempo energy that blends for music perfection.

With six videos “in the tank” and awaiting release, RTRS said the gang is gearing up to take their music to the people as the touring dates crank up. Future dates in California, Arizona, and Oklahoma are just the beginning as they take New Era Hip Hop to fans.

“I hope people enjoy what we put out there and are entertained by it,” he said. “We’re just trying to make something that people can sit back and smile, or at least just forget about their life, for a minute.”

Becktoria – I Like It Like That

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Becktoria’s Latest Single ‘I Like It Like That’ Climbs the Charts

LOS ANGELES – Model, actress, and artist Becktoria is putting her mark on the music industry with her latest single, “I Like It Like That,” – and fans are loving it.

Born in Burma, raised in England, and now residing in California, Becktoria was influenced by Celine Dion, Sia, and The Chainsmokers. Mix that trio, and you have a unique new sound second to only Becktoria’s pop and indie sound.

Her latest single, “I Like It Like That,” reached the Billboard Top 40 Indicator Chart, charted on numerous other charts, and got regular airplay on web and radio channels. Internationally, Becktoria is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the industry as she blazes a path destined for stardom.

“My goal in life is to help people to find their happiness and inner peace and just love life,” said Becktoria. “Make the most of life and live every day to its fullest.”

Spoken from experience, Becktoria’s past includes a successful modeling career that earned her beauty pageant titles, a Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences, and a Master’s degree. If that was not enough, Becktoria has worked with artists across the globe, which has propelled her popularity worldwide.

When asked why she chose music instead of acting or modeling, she replied, “I’ve always been passionate and been inspired by music. I studied music at a young age and played multiple instruments in many orchestras and ensembles, including singing in the choir and the school pop band. Halfway through studying biomedical sciences, I realized I wanted to pursue music professionally. I wanted to do something more creative and how I could express my feelings. Music was always there for me.”

Experimenting with her first EP, Becktoria based her songs on love and breakups by using metaphors throughout each song. “It was based on my dreams, and then I just related it to love and real life.”

However, her latest EP, “Goodbye & Hello,” demonstrates her growth as an artist, as fans have deemed it her best yet. The straightforward lyrics are coupled with pop melodies and Becktoria’s signature sound, making each track relatable. The entire EP is taken from Becktoria’s life.

“The EP has a couple of different meanings, like saying goodbye to my relationship and hello to a new relationship. All the songs are structured in order. So, the first thing is, I said goodbye to my love, and then the next one is finding new love and loving love. And then going through some problems with the new relationship and then breaking up again,” she explained.

Looking back at the EP and its five songs, Becktoria knows her fans can relate to saying farewell to a relationship and going through the sadness and joy of finding new love and the roller coaster of emotions it brings.

Taking inspiration from artists such as Katy Perry, Bebe Rexha, and Lizzo, Becktoria hopes to inspire listeners with her music. Her infectious pop and indie-influenced sounds are perfect for the dance floor, singing in the car, slow dancing with your lover, and looking ahead to your best life yet to be lived.

ML Underwood – BOS$ PLAYA (ft. Aya Ito)

Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

ML Underwood Continues to Reign as a “Boss Playa”

GARY, INDIANA – Hip hop artist and producer ML Underwood is back on the scene and dropping beats like never before with his latest single “Bos$ Playa,” featuring Aya Ito. Racking up more than 3,700 views after just hours of its premiere on YouTube, “Bos$ Playa” is cementing ML Underwood as the boss.

“Millionaires, they make a lot of money, work hard, like to smoke and have a nice drink, and just celebrate success – that is a boss playa. And I’m a boss, I’ve always been a boss playa,” said ML Underwood.

When asked further about his latest single, Underwood explains, “It just lays the groundwork for how a real man proves himself in this world we live in right now. Instead of snitching on people and bringing us down to save themselves or hating on another person, I try to tell people to stay away from things of that nature. It is about being positive really and at the same time being a gangsta.”

While the “Bos$ Playa” video is filled with living the high life as a player, Underwood’s latest single is more than just glitz and glamour. Using LeBron James and the late Kobe Bryant as examples, Underwood said, “They are on the team, and how they lead the team (is) they work together with a team to win, and that’s how I live my life. I’m a boss playa out here in the field of life, and it’s the way you move through it so you can win.”

That mentality of playing to win and win as a team makes Underwood stand out in the industry. However, Underwood is not a newcomer to the music industry. As CEO of the entertainment group MyLife Entertainment, he is a well-known and respected talent manager. From offering motivational speaking, life coaching, and philanthropy, Underwood brings out the best in artists and himself while taking the hip-hop industry to the next highest level.

Looking at Underwood’s lengthy list of accomplishments, one may think he’s always had an easy life – that could not be farther from the truth.

While in prison for five years, Underwood had plenty of time to focus and get his head and mind straight. “I realized I always had the talent and that I was living through other people,” he said. “So I just said, ‘stop living through others and live on my own. I am the artist, and I’ve always had the talent.’”

That revelation set the groundwork for his future success in the studio and community, with The United Prisoner Association, which aims to help inmates turn their lives around and focus on fulfilling their dreams away from crime. Never straying far from his Gary, Indiana roots, Underwood gives back to his community. Now living in the suburbs of Crown Point, Indiana in the famous Doubletree Estates, he’s proving that he is deeply embedded in promoting and uplifting the next generation.

“I use my music to empower the African American community to follow the light and find success in their lives,” he said. “My music is a force that is acquiring worldwide recognition in African American music. My life is serving as a source of inspiration for those who are failing to turn their dreams into reality, and my music is encouraging people to take a stand and fight to live lives exactly the way they want to.”

Kayos – Ce Ce

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Kayos showcases chameleon-like ability to fuse any sound and style on upcoming new EP ‘Stay Tuned’

LOS ANGELES, CA – What comes from the heart, reaches the heart. And if there’s one thing fans of Kayos’ music can be certain, it’s that he creates heart-felt music.

Born Demontray Bullard, this Los Angeles-based artist is a luminary in the making. Crafted from the struggle and grind, this young up-and-coming musician is wiser than his years and stronger than the eroded tears of the mothers and grandmothers of his neighborhood in South Central LA. His state name, Kayos (pronounced “chaos”), is a deliberate departure from his birth name. He adopted the moniker as a nod to the environment from which he evolved.

“That’s my upbringing, but not my pathology,” he said. “As artists, we have to be real about the stories we tell and the pictures we pain through our lyrics. There are too many people out here rapping about stuff that’s not their reality, and that’s reckless. Tell your truth, and those who can relate to that truth will relate to your lyrics. You can bridge genres and communities through music and lyrics, and that’s my goal.”

That transparent outlet of artistic freedom is set to challenge minds and connect with an ever-widening global fanbase when he released his latest EP “Stay Tuned” this fall. Featuring different style and vibes from his deep well of talent, the project is one that ties together all the various pieces of his personality and past experiences. It’s a sneak peek of what’s to come in the future, he said, while at the same time serving as a highly entertaining body of work.

The debut single from the project is a song called “CeCe Song,” which is set to drop by mid October. “CeCe Song” is an up-tempo, good party vibe that talks about the LA life while fusing together that hot Atlanta sound with West Coast swag. Produced by super producer RicK Rude, the song showcases Kayos’ standout style and impressive flow, and demonstrates an otherworldly ability to pain pictures with his lyrics.

“I want to expose who I am and what I stand for, but also be able to paint a picture that other people can relate to,” he said. “Whether it’s pain or joy or something that’s motivational – I want you to feel every song. If it’s a party song, when you hear it I want you to feel like you want to party. If there’s something testing my life and I rap about it, I want you to be able to resonate with it right when you hear it. That’s the reason I set the EP the way I did – so that you get a sample of six different styles and sounds and see that my style is not tied into one genre.”

Anyone who listens to Kayos’ music will discover that he’s an artist with a personality with a lot of nuance. He’s someone who can be different depending on the environment, and his music reflects that. He’s like a chameleon, and the songs he creates reflects that lifestyle.

Princess Rock – Don’t Sleep

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

15-year-old Princess Rock shows maturity beyond her years with hype new single ‘Don’t Sleep’

PHILADELPHIA, PA – When it comes to balancing classic rap with contemporary musicality, not many artists today can do the job. But one on-the-rise rapper named Princess Rock has already done it.

At only 15-years-old, Princess Rock is etching her own place in rap royalty. Her first single “Doo Wop” demonstrated a flawless ability with natural flow, and has made her one of the young artists to watch on the East Coast. And now with her latest single, “Don’t Sleep,” she’s set to take her talents to the international stage in major ways. With vocals and songwriting prowess like few others in the game, this talented young musician is ready to take the world by storm.

“Don’t Sleep” is the third single from this fast-rising young artist. It’s an energetic, hype song that lets people know who she is and showcases just a small portion of the potential she has to be an international superstar. Audiences who hear the song will see almost immediately that how she carries herself is beyond her years. In a music industry laden with female sex symbols and scathing lyrics, Princess Rock offers a refreshing performance that’s equal parts entertaining and intriguing. With her it’s more in the things she doesn’t endorse and doesn’t say than in the things she does, and that’s intentional. She knows that a lot of times artists can turn people off by what they say. But she’s a young artist who is purposeful with her lyrics and intentional about her presence and reputation.

“Princess Rock fits me because as a young black woman I feel that I’m royalty, and the rock adds an edge to it,” she said. “I make hype music and the styles that I mix with that go perfectly together, but at the end of the day I want to be known for being positive and having good morals. I’m conscious of how I carry myself and my message. All of my music has a message of being confident in who you are. You can achieve anything you put your mind to. It’s going to take hard work, but if you want to do it, you can do it – no matter what you go through.”

That sentiment is the foundation for her latest single. In many ways she’s telling the world not to sleep on her as she’s about to show audiences all around the globe just how great of an artist she is. And as she does so, she encourages others to embrace that kind of confidence and put in the work to show others that they shouldn’t be slept on, either.

LONDON, UK – Anyone who has ever seen or heard Luca Tozzi knows that he’s a man with a very eccentric personality. Appropriate, then, that he would adopt the stage name Luke ATME. And it’s under that stage name that he’s been drawing attention from all corners of the world with his standout and original music.

His latest offering to the world is a four-song EP called “DREAMS 4 U.” Set to release before the end of the year, the project is an exploration of astrological escapism as it uses a variety of sounds and styles to bring listeners into another dimension. Inspired by sounds and genres from multiple cultures, the project truly digs deep into the subconscious of audiences and plants dream-like visions that are equal parts entertaining and intriguing. Each of the four songs are different from one another – like different planets of the same galaxy. Luke ATME calls it a “fairytale into another world.”

“At the end of the day it’s transcendent,” he said. “it’s an escape from the reality you’re in.”

The project kicks off with the debut single “Starting From the Bottom,” which went wide across all streaming platforms on Oct. 10. In the song he explores the reality of today versus the experiences of his past, and offers up a close look at Naples as a metaphor of the misunderstood nature of his own life and purpose as a musician.

“Some people love that city, and some people don’t,” he said. “I’m trying to show people that it’s just a humble city, just as I am a humble man who is trying to give a lot of importance to the value of life. Ultimately this is a song that shows the dream of where I’m going to be, and what I can do as an artist. It’s hip-hop in that I rap and sing, but it’s also different than anything anyone has heard before.”

Luke ATME follows that up with “Dreamlife,” which utilizes multi-lingual lyrics of Spanish, English and French set against a Trap and Reggaeton fusion. The third song on the project is “Dame Attención,” which in English means “Give me your attention.” Unlike the other songs on the EP, “Dame Attención” is more of a mellow, chill vibe that features fun acoustic guitar riffs. It’s the perfect song to play on the beach or while hanging out with a group of friends. Luke ATME calls it a “love, escape song that more kind of sexy than any of the others.”

The last song on the EP is “The Greatest Escape,” which is a dance track ready made for the clubs, produced by Persian DJ AFSHINAM. It’s a song that perfectly finalizes the concept with some happy vibes, enhancing the fact that this EP is a trip toward a better and brighter future.

“We’re finally at a time when we can live our lives,” he said. “This shit is almost over. Lets do what we want and make sure we enjoy life, because life is short and we don’t know when it’s going to end.”
