St Oshun – The Joint

St. Oshun drops new Pop hit ‘The Joint’

LOS ANGELES, CA – A little bit of The Weeknd meets Dua Lipa in the Pop hit from nationally known duo St. Oshun. “The Joint” is yet another sure-to-be-hit from C-Dub and Porsche, two artists who have been making music together under the stage name St. Oshun. It’s a song about a woman who meets a man and she thinks she’s into him, but realizes the next day it wasn’t really him but in fact she was under the influence of a substance.

“The song offers a message of empowerment to women because the woman doesn’t feel helpless because of her mistake,” C-Dub said. “She is ready to move on and learn from the experience. The song message is, ‘Yeah, I screwed up. We all do. It was fun. It was stupid. Let’s move on.’”

“The Joint” is slated to drop across all streaming platforms on June 24, with a lyric video available at the same time and a fully produced video to follow shortly thereafter. C-Dub said that he and Porsche have been making music together for many years, but it wasn’t until earlier this year that they decided to rebrand their duo under the name St. Oshun – a name that’s inspired by the Nigerian River Goddess. C-Dub said the name pays homage to both of their African American heritage while also highlighting the imagery of a powerful woman, which is what they want their music to be about.

“Our sound feels good and our style is positive,” Porsche said. “That doesn’t necessarily mean all the lyrics are happy sunshine. But it feels good and is uplifting for the most part. And it will always have a positive energy and vibe to it.”

Porsche is a vocalist, bassist, flutist and hand percussionist who was raised by a single mother in Milwaukee. She and her sisters would spend their time singing along to the radio, and eventually she began to perform professionally at smaller events around her city. She began writing and producing with a group, exploring the soulfulness of her voice in tandem with a rich R&B style and Pop melodies. That background pairs perfectly with C-Dub’s signature style to create truly memorable tracks.

C-Dub grew up in rural country in Wisconsin, surrounded by dairy farms, apple orchards and little to do. So he turned to music at age 10 and never looked back. He learned to play the saxophone, and over the years has learned other instruments as well as developed his voice. Together he and Porsche create a quality sound that has been recognized by some of the best in the industry. They’ve had the opportunity to open for acts such as Lil Uzi Vert, Chaka Khan, Earth Wind & Fire, and The Commodores. They’ve been featured on Fox News, NBC’s “Live in the Morning,” The Morning Blend, Discover Wisconsin, and they were the featured artists on The Blues Review and Soul Bag sampler CDs. They’ve been nominated six years in a row for Best Soul/R&B act at WAMI, winning in 2013.

“At the end of the day we want to empower people through music,” C-Dub said. “We want to uplift them. Everyone can remember a time when they were going through something and they had that song that just pulled them through. You might put it on repeat and not listen to anything else for a long time. Steve Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire have done that for me a bunch of times. We know that people are struggling through a lot of things right now, and they need to be reminded that life is good sometimes. It’s not always so tough. It’s worth keeping on, even when things are tough. That’s what we want our music to be known for.”

Garcia Douglas – United As One

Blog, Industry Spotlight, Music, Promo, Videos

Garcia Douglas brings hope to the world through inspirational new track ‘United As One’

OTTAWA, CANADA – Inspiration and motivation are central aspects of the music coming from Canadian artist Garcia Douglas. Her style is from the heart – from the soul – and as such it has a depth and richness that listeners all over the world are finding refreshing. That positive, uplifting vibe is intentional, and it’s put on full display with her latest single, “United As One.”

Currently available across all streaming platforms, “United As One” is a soulful track that encourages people to do their part in affecting positive change around the world. Like many other artists who turned to songwriting during the global pandemic, Garcia dug deep within herself with this single as a way to not only find hope through a lot of the heartache of the past year, but also to find words to help create a dialogue to bring people together, despite their differences.

“I wrote it because I want to do my part, even if it’s just a little small part, in bringing about some positive changes to the way we currently see each other and interact with each other,” Garcia said. “We’re stronger together. But we’re so divided right now. And I just want to bridge and close that gap and find a way for us to work together. My daughter is 7 and she has seen the chaos of the world, and she’s so curious and wants to understand why things are happening and what’s going on. I want to create a new world for her and all children. I want to say, ‘Look at us. Look how well we worked together.’ We have to lead by example. So I want to be able to show people on a big scale how to look beyond our differences.”

Garcia said she believes deeply in a world where we all are equal, and she hopes her music will help bring about some of that unity. That’s not a manufactured sentiment, either. If there’s one thing fans of Garcia’s music can be assured of, it’s that her art is authentic. It comes from whatever she’s feeling in the moment, and when you listen to one of her tracks it’s almost as if you’re standing right beside her as she pours out her heart.

Garcia started her journey in music as a child, singing in church choirs and performing at school. She said every opportunity to sing was a good one, even if it was as a backup artist or in a group. She has always loved singing and entertaining people, and now as an adult she continues to do that as often as she can, albeit with deeper, more soulful messages.

“Being creative gives me a whole new world to explore and enjoy,” she said. “I’ve learned a lot through life. When I was younger I couldn’t communicate what I wanted to very well, but now I’m in a place where I feel like I have more to offer. I have a lot of world experience, and I don’t want to keep what I’ve learned to myself. I want to be able to help everyone – to show them how to get through some things faster and better than I did. I want to inspire others to live their dreams, no matter their age or where they are in life. It’s never too late to do something really great.”

Rich Yung Zaya – The Weed The Dope

Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

Rich Yung Zaya overcomes multiple hardships by using music to inspire others

BRONX, NY – Isaiah Jenkins is really a very private person, but when he found out at age 26 that he was in need of a kidney transplant, he did the only thing he could think to do to raise the necessary funds for that procedure – he put himself front-and-center to the world with his signature style of music. For the past three years this young man from The Bronx has been operating as the hip-hop artist Rich Yung Zaya, offering a style with a Brooklyn Drill kind of sound. But his originality sets him apart from anyone else in the game today – something with takes center stage on his latest hit single “The Weed, The Dope.”

Currently available across all streaming platforms, “The Weed, The Dope” has a nice bounce to it that definitely makes listeners want to bop their heads. And Rich Yung Zaya rides the beat like a master of rap. His natural rasp brings a gravelly edge to the otherwise fun and upbeat vibe from the song, and plays an intriguing counter-point to the old-school Native American Courting Flute melody in the background. Zaya calls it a song that helps him get in front of the masses in new ways by serving as a showcase of his freestyle abilities.

“I had to go out of my comfort zone and tell people I have this need for a kidney transplant, and music was the way to do it,” Zaya said. “I’m unique in that I’ve been around the ghetto and grew up in the middle of all that, but I also went to college and have pursued other things than the street life. As a person I’m more laid back, but when I make music it can be any different kind of sound or vibe. None of my music sounds the same. All of my music is different across the board. And above all I have a story to tell with my kidney disease. I think all of those things make me an artist that a wide range of people can relate to.”

Though Zaya has been making music since he was 15, he never took it seriously until recently. His recent diagnosis with kidney disease is merely the most recent of many maladies he’s faced over the course of his young life. At birth the doctors told his mother that he wasn’t supposed to live past five months. At one month old his heart stopped due to asthma. He was incubated at 8 months old when his heart stopped again. When he was 9 years old a pit bull bit him on the leg, piercing so deep that his bone was exposed and severing one of his nerves. During his junior year of high school he had a seizure right in the middle of class, and it was discovered that he had Arnold Chiari Malformation – a condition that caused his cerebral and spinal fluids to mix, creating a chemically induced electric shock to his brain. He had to have brain surgery to fix the problem.

“I’ve slowly gone through life understanding that I’ve been put on this earth for a reason,” Zaya said. “At first it was about helping my mother and sister get out of the hood. We’ve been through hell – from sleeping in shelters with the roaches to still being stuck in poverty to this day. Music helped me get through it all. I plan on using my gifts to get me a kidney, and to help my family have a better life. And along the way I think I can inspire and relate with a lot of people.”

In addition to “The Weed, The Dope,” Zaya is releasing two mixtapes. The first is “Methods to Flossing,” followed soon after by “4 Days and 4 Nights.” Both should be released within the next couple of months.

Lipp – Aight I’m Done

Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

Lipp whips words of wisdom on bouncy new single ‘Crashout’

MIAMI, FL – Travion Williams – better known by his stage name Lipp – is an artist and singer/songwriter who is profoundly and considerably underrated. Hailing from a small town near Miami, Florida, called Opa-Locka, this artist comes from the hard knock life of the inner-ciety. He was inspired to pursue a music career while in high school, and in the years since he’s been working to perfect his craft and hone in on a signature sound and style.

That originality comes front-and-center with his latest album “Aight … I’m Done,” which has been getting major buzz in the month since its release on May 28. It’s a project that features real street music across 10 songs that chronicle the story of his life. Over the years various situations have landed Lipp in courts and state prison cells, which ultimately slowed up his process of a promising career. Now that he’s a free man, he has the drive and tunnel vision to further his musical status.

“I’m not only ready to put a permanent stamp on the rap game, but the music industry as a whole,” he said. “I’m working non-stop. I’m already known for having one of the most distinctive voices in Florida, and I’m fixing to be a real problem in Florida’s rap scene. I’m ready to show the world that I’m here to stay.”

The debut single from his new album is testament to that fact. “Crashout” is an upbeat and aggressive track that perfectly showcases the impressive talent of this up-and-coming artist. It’s a song with a fun vibe right from the get-go. It has a nice bounce to it, with a melody that features the sounds of a harpsichord running in the background. As Lipp raps about the various things in life that cause people to fail and the decisions that often lead to “crashing out,” he whips words and flings lyrics out into the world like little wisdom knives. They’ll cut, but they’ll serve as words of caution to anyone who thinks that living the dangerous life will lead to something good in the end.

“You don’t want to crash out,” he said. “You don’t want to do something stupid. When you do, you end up back in jail and life just passes you by. I’ve been there and I know, and I feel like I have the experience to help others get away from that life and make better decisions.”

Lipp doesn’t shy away from the attitude on this track – he’s brash and confident and aggressive, but it’s inviting at the same time. He’s got attitude, but you can’t help but smile as he presents an unrelenting onslaught of flow and rhythm. There’s no doubt that it’s a fun track, and listeners will be bouncing from beginning to end. But more than that it’s a cautionary tale to anyone who will listen – as is the entire album.

Allen B – Do You Believe

Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Allen B serves up impressive mix of sounds and styles on mysterious new album ‘Gypsy King’

SAN DIEGO, CA – When most people think about gypsies, there’s an element of mystery often involved. They’re nomads with a culture deeply rooted in spirituality and often wander the world seeking new adventures and experiences. They’re eclectic, and present an outward appearance that’s influenced by many different people groups from around the world.

That’s a great way to describe the new EP from West Coast artist Allen B. “Gypsy King” is a six-song project that gives listeners a little taste of everything he has to offer as an entertainer. From Hip-hop to R&B to Dancehall to EDM to Jazz to Funk … and everything in between … this is an EP that is sure to please any music lover out there. It’s a project that pulls from his many different life experiences and influences – from growing up in New Orleans to traveling the world through his years of service with the U.S. Navy. The West Coast funk and hip-hop flavor contributed to the jazzy taste he developed as a kid in New Orleans, and blends together with the affinity he developed for keys and synth sounds while stations overseas. All of these things come together into his music for a truly original sound.

The first track on the project is “AI Technology.” It’s a song that both addresses what’s going on in the world today with the over-saturation of technology, and what this could lead to in the future. “AI Technology” is interconnected through all aspects of life and business, Allen B said.

“If you look back 20 or 30 years ago, the cell phone was the biggest thing popping, and they were huge,” Allen B said. “Now everything is inter-connected – from Siri to street lights to Amber Alerts and all the ways everything is interconnected through finances. This song explores the benefits and potential dangers of living in that kind of a technology-driven world.”

Allen B follows that up with “Road Rage,” and aggressive song with a catchy hook and a lot of energy that was inspired from a moment he had on the freeway in Southern California – a place notorious for it’s bumper-to-bumper traffic and high rates of road rage-induced violence.

The third track is “Do You Believe?” which Allen B said is the standout single from the project and has been getting some major attention from fans all over the world, especially throughout Europe. He calls it an old-school funk song that channels his inner Ray Charles. It was born from a moment of introspection when he began to wonder just how much he could believe the things people around him were telling him – even including friends and family.

“Do you believe what you see?” he asks in the song. “The truth is not what it seems to be when people tell you. There are always two sides to every story. Are people doing the research to find out the truth of what people are telling them – whether that’s through the media or even what friends say as fact? The truth can be skewed.”

Allen B said “Do You Believe?” has been especially popular among younger demographics, and he’s excited to see how it introduces a whole new generation of music-lovers to his unique brand of music.

He follows this up with “Zena’s Moon” and “Dance Hall King.” The first is a catchy song about different strands of marijuana, while the latter is an EDM/Dancehall mix that has a great vibe and could easily be heard in clubs all around the world.

He finishes the project with “Bitcoin,” which is an exploration and quasi-indictment of people’s ignorance when it comes to the future currency of the world. It’s a song that demonstrates Allen B’s desire to use music to initiate dialogue around key issues, while also entertaining the masses with groovy sounds.

“I’m trying to leave behind a message,” Allen B said. “You can make good sounds and rhythms and sometimes words aren’t needed. But sometimes words really are needed to make good songs. My slogan is ‘Music with no limits.’ I don’t have to make music the way people tell you that you should do it. That’s why I try to incorporate different elements with different styles, and I know people will understand what I’m trying to accomplish. And through it all I intend to show them that I’m leaving a message behind in a variety of different ways. You can dance and have a good time, but you also get little nuggets of what it takes to get through life in this world today.”

Spyndycyt – I Don’t Want To Do This Anymore

Music, Promo, Videos

Spyndycyt marries eclectic vibe with Synth and Future Pop styles on intriguing new track ‘I Don’t Want To Do This Anymore’

DENVER, CO – If the B-52s and Depeche Mode met Future Pop and Synth Wave sounds, you’d have the signature sound and style of Denver-based artist Spyndycyt (pronounced Spin-Da-kit). His latest single “I Don’t Want To Do This Anymore” is an upbeat, dance-ready track that’s simultaneously trippy and catchy. It’s intriguing in the best of ways and makes you want to move with its frenetic energy and upbeat vibe. And from the moment you hear the first verse come out of his mouth you’ll immediately be taken back to lead singers like Fred Schneider or Dave Gahan.

The video that accompanies the single is equally intriguing. Nothing more than a point of view camera angle stumbling down a stairwell, the dizzying effect of the video is a perfect accompanying visual for this delightfully meandering track. Anyone who is a fan of Synth Pop, Dance Pop, or Alternative Pop will love this song.

“Ultimately it’s a song about the drudgery of life and escaping that mundane reality that we all try to avoid,” Spyndycyt said. “You go to school, you get a job, you get a life, and then you’re stuck. That’s kind of what music is about for me – escaping the routine all of us find ourselves in. Ultimately I’d like to be known as someone who is creative and a little bit different.”

That sentence could very well be the driving force behind a lot of the decisions this artist makes. His stage name, in fact, was created out of an intentional mindset to stand out from the crowd. It’s certainly not something you’d find with a lot of competition when doing an online search of the name, and more than that it’s a name that makes you think a little deeper and wonder about what kind of art comes from a guy with that name.

The answer is – good art. The best kind of art – creative and original and experimental, but pleasing to the ear and catchy in ways that makes you want to hit repeat over and over again. In fact, Spyndycyt said the only thing he’s ever really wanted to do with his music is create something that people can tap their feet to or feel an emotional connection with.

“When you turn on the radio today a lot of the stuff sounds the same,” he said. “That gets old to me. When I first started making music it would devastate me that I didn’t sound like anyone else. I’d beat myself up and think it was horrible. But now I enjoy that and appreciate that aspect of it. There are a thousand artists out there actively trying to sound like someone else. Now I embrace the challenge of trying to reproduce what I hear in my head. When words pop into my head, they’re often already attached to a melody or cadence, and it can be fun to play around with that starting point. And when people ask me to describe it, I have trouble coming up with a genre. It’s eclectic. It’s whatever I hear in the privacy of my mind – whether it’s something to keep or something so bad it embarrasses me. And it’s a lot like what other people think about – dreams, hopes, crippling fears, reservations about life, and a generalized angst.”

Spyndycyt said he has other songs he’s working on that will likely be released later this year, and that he could combine all of them into an EP before the year is over. Until then, “I Don’t Want To Do This Anymore” is available across all streaming platforms.

Badboy VT – Not Innocent

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

Badboy VT turns pain into motivation and inspiration on new track ‘Not Innocent’

CHICAGO, IL – Growing up, Davonte Watkins always looked up to his older cousin Ed “Badboy” Brown. He was a well-known boxer from the West Side of Chicago. But in 2016 Watkins’ cousin was gunned down and died. Watkins dealt with a lot of anger from the experience, and eventually got arrested on gun charges. It was during his time in prison that he started thinking about the impact Badboy had left on his life, and he made the decisions to follow in his cousin’s footsteps as a rapper. Once released from prison he started to take his music career seriously. He took on the stage name of his cousin, and today operates as Badboy VT with music that has hundreds of thousands of streams across multiple platforms.

His latest offering to the world is the hit single “Not Innocent,” which was originally written while serving time in prison. It’s a song inspired by his late cousin and the challenges he has felt in the years since the original Badboy was killed. It’s a song that many people having come up through the struggle will be able to relate to as it explores the cultural and societal disadvantages many born to that way of life face every day.

“I’m an innocent child, but I’m not innocent due to the circumstances of where I’m from,” Badboy VT said. “The way I have lived is what I was born into. I’ve been trying to escape it, but it’s hard to escape without getting in trouble and doing certain things. My cousin Badboy inspired me, and when he was killed his death really impacted me. I’ve turned that pain into motivation and grind. The majority of what I get done I do because of the pain I go through.”

When it comes to musicality, listeners will immediately recognize that Badboy VT has a voice that’s different from anything else in the music industry today. He has a different way of talking about familiar topics, and his flow and sound are unique and original. He’s also extremely versatile. He can ride any beat – from jazz to rock to hip-hop and everything in between – and is one of the most naturally gifted freestyle artists in recent memory. Whatever he’s feeling in the moment just pours out of him on the mic, and the result is recording gold.

“I actually heal and touch people,” he said of his music. “I inspire people to do better and to do what they can to get through certain situations. Do what you can for yourself and don’t worry about what the next person thinks. Stay focused. Put family first. Keep your head down and push forward through the pain and don’t worry about what anyone else thinks.”

Badboy VT said he plans to follow up “Not Innocent” with another single called “So Amazing,” which should drop later this summer.
