Nostalgia – January Jewel

Global music scene gets fresh blast of sound from Melbourne native Nostalgia

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – It’s been a while since the music industry has heard a truly original sound. But in 2021 that trend will change thanks to a new vibe coming out of Melbourne. With a fusion of synth Pop, EDM, Hip Hop, R&B and Indie Folk, this new sound that has yet to be named is both intriguing and captivating. It’s a sound that perfectly captures the vibe of the city from which it has been born, and it’s a sound that is starting to put some of Australia’s young artists on the map.

Tarun Zachariah – AKA Nostalgia – is one of those fast-rising young artists who bring this new sound to the world. With a plan to release a new single every month of this year, Nostalgia is poised to become one of the world’s new artists that demands attention. And he’s kicking the year off with his debut single, “January Jewel,” which is currently available across all streaming platforms.

The song begins with ethereal synth keys that offer an airy kind of opening that leads perfectly into Nostalgia’s falsetto vocals set against a Pop beat. It feels a bit like Maggie Rogers meets The Weeknd, with some electronic elements thrown in for good measure. The overall vibe is chill and laid back with a groove that makes the listener want to sway to the music.

“It’s for that summertime chill vibe because it’s summer over here but I still wanted people to be able to enjoy it wherever they were in the world, even in the snow,” Nostalgia said. “I was inspired by the song ‘Woman in Love’ by Barbara Streisand, a song about a woman under the unforgiving spell of love which is forcing her to succumb to it. Love is beyond her control and she’s getting lost in it. I sampled it at the early stages of this song and I wrote this chorus to it about what love can end up costing you. Often you hear people talk about love in terms of it being a great part of life, but I took a different perspective of love being so overbearing that it becomes detrimental to you and at times you wonder if it’s even a good thing. It might seem magical at times and something for which you’d fully give yourself and sacrifice for, but at the end of the day, what if it isn’t worth that? If you sacrifice so much that it ends in pain or heartbreak, it makes you question if love was meant for everyone.”

Nostalgia burst onto the Melbourne music scene with darkness and seduction a couple of years ago. Drawing from a wide range of influences, he is able to sustain a traditional element that’s laced with hints of EDM and ambience. His somber vocals pair perfectly with his self-produced tracks in a way that makes this Melbourne crooner a voice that delves into unknown territory. He showcases versatility and innovation, and the world is starting to pay attention.

“When you say you’re feeling nostalgic, it’s a hard word to describe because you’re just longing for a feeling you once had,” he said. “That’s what I want my music to evoke – that reminiscing of what life was like in the moment you first heard my song, or the 20th time, or the hundredth time, or whatever. The times I feel most nostalgic is when I’m listening to music because it’s so good at embedding itself as part of your memory. I hope my music gives others that same feeling – that bookmark in their life.”

DeeZire – Tell Me

Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

R&B Duo DeeZire brings back classic 90s sound with new single ‘Tell Me’

ATLANTA, GA – While there are many artists emerging from the booming Atlanta music industry, few of them possess the unique talent and style that DeeZire exhibits. This up-and-coming R&B and Hip Hop duo comprised of members cousins Swade and X’Clusiv offer a truly special blend of sound, style and influence to the world. They have everything it takes to become the next big name in music.

Their recent single, “Tell Me,” is a great example of the kind of groundbreaking sound they’re bringing to the international market. A true love song that’s indicative of the late 1990s and early 2000s R&B sound, “Tell Me” is all about putting that loved one on a pedestal.

“It’s speaking to your significant other and wanting them to tell you what they want from you,” Swade X ’Clusiv said. “It’s about supplying your significant other their needs. The 90s sound of this song is a lot like all of our music, which plays a big influence in how we write and sing. It’s a totally different sound than what’s on the radio today with R&B and Pop. We do a lot of harmonies and a lot of arrangements with live instruments across all our tracks.”

DeeZire formed in 2013 when Swade and X’Clusiv came together in Atlanta. They both had a mutual love for music, and the more time they spent around each other, the more they realized they shared the same inspirations – from Michael Jackson and Prince to New Edition and Usher, among others. They soon realized that if they worked together, their shared passion to use music and share their artistic voice with the rest of the world could lead to something truly original.

“We’re bringing that classic sound of R&B back,” X’clusiv Swade said. “Everybody has been saying it’s dead, but we don’t feel that way. We feel that R&B isn’t being marketed the way Pop and hip Hop is right now, and we want to bring that back to the table. We want to show that there are still people out there doing quality R&B music that you can vibe and rock to. We want to put that sound back on the map.”

With a follow up to their debut EP, “Love Therapy,” The duo hopes to do just that with the release of their second debut EP, “Love ZoneTherapy,” which is slated to drop in the next couple of months. One Two more singles, “Raindrops” and “Love Zone” is are slated to release before the full EP, however.

DEMO – Hey Sofia

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

International artist DEMO brings funky fusion of sounds with new single ‘Hey Sofia’

LOS ANGELES, CA – Fusion of sound is a staple for international artist DEMO. With a funky blend of R&B and Rock that features influences of Pop and Dance Hall vibes, DEMO has the kind of unique sound and style that truly caters to a wide audience all over the globe. That one-of-a-kind sound is put on full display with his new single “Hey Sofia,” set to drop wide across all streaming platforms the first week of January.

With a funky R&B swag that has a great bassline and groovy guitar licks, “Hey Sofia” is a song about finding inspiration in the midst of a creative slump. DEMO said the song was born from his own battle with creative frustration during a time when he was looking to expand his reach as an artist. The accomplished singer/songwriter has worked with international artists and producers for many years, and his move to LA was in an effort to take his career to the next level.

“Sofie is like a muse, and she’s a metaphor for the thing that helps you find inspiration from others,” DEMO said. “It’s a song about finding inspiration in the midst of whatever artistic endeavors you’re involved in. It’s a good song for the clubs and it’s very good to dance to.”

Over the course of his young career, DEMO has become known for seamlessly fusing wisps of Pop, Funk, R&B and Electronic into a smoke signature Indie sound. His lyricism – ranging from morose to whimsical – offers an unvarnished reflection of life and self and relies heavily on metaphoric imagery.

“I’ve played mostly in Rock bands growing up, but with some of my more recent music, I’ve been able to fuse sounds of Rock and Funk with a producer who is more into Electronic Synth sounds,” DEMO said. “My sound is harnessing the Rock and R&B and fusing that with Electronic Synth into a sound that I think is pretty unique. Ultimately, I want to be known for being introspective while having sounds that are playful. ‘Hey Sofia’ is very dancy and poppy and fun, but the lyrics are about a person who is unsatisfied with his creativity in music. It is self-criticism done in a way that’s more fun. The lyrics are more in depth and prone to making people think, but it’s a song that’s going to help people have fun. You could almost ignore the lyrics and just dance if you want to.”

DEMO has seen some success over the years and has had the opportunity to perform at notable venues across the U.S. and France, including the 9:30 Club in Washington DC and the Gibus Club in Paris. In addition to “Hey Sofia,” he has also released a funky single called “A Different Way” which is getting some good attention, and he’s also working toward a bigger project that he plans to release in mid 2021.

Carl Wockner – Fools Gold

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music

Independent underdog Carl Wockner translates live acoustic looping into professionally recorded singles

NASHVILLE, TN – Carl Wockner is what some people in the industry would call an independent underdog. This live acoustic looping artist from Australia is a seasoned veteran who has played thousands of live shows around the world over the course of his career. He’s developed a great career out of those live performances – blending his own unique sound and style into his original music that’s become beloved by a global audience. But like many other artists who faced difficult circumstances in 2020 due to the global pandemic and lockdown, Wockner was forced to sideline his live performing for a time. But in true underdog fashion, he shifted gears and started putting pen to paper, creating a slew of singles that he’s recorded and has been releasing to the masses over the past few months.

His most recent single is a song called “Fool’s Gold.” Showcasing the acoustic R&B sound he’s become known for, the song explores the deeper side of relationships and the true commitment that comes once you get past the surface things. It will be the sixth single that he’s released over the past six months and will be available across all streaming platforms at the beginning of 2021. Of the singles he’s released this year, he said “Fool’s Gold” will show fans a different side of his personality while also highlighting his signature sound.

“I’m an acoustic looping artist, so I’m of course influenced by acoustics singers and songwriters who have good lyrics,” Wockner said. “I like to blend those styles with R&B beats. Usually, acoustic guitar isn’t anywhere in R&B songs – they usually feature a lot of keys. But I like to add that Acoustic sound to something with a cool beat, and I love R&B tunes and Pop music. When you blend that with the singer/songwriter vibe, I believe there’s a lot of room to incorporate all the things I love.”

Wockner started as a full-time musician when he was a teenager growing up in Australia. He toured a lot of the world playing shows and making a name for himself. In 2015, he moved to Nashville to take his music career to the next level and has been releasing recorded singles in the years since. But 2020 has given him a unique opportunity to translate his live performances to original recordings in new and exciting ways.

“A lot of my earlier recordings are band-related,” he said. “Not that I’m taking the elements of the acoustic looping – which is what I already do live – and translate that into a recorded sound. I want those elements to shine through and show people that it can be done. I want my music to reflect me more as a personality, as an independent artist or an underdog artist. My music should speak for itself. There shouldn’t be a boundary to music based on a textbook. On top of that, I want people to take messages from my songs and the lyrical content I create, while also creating music that can stand alone without the lyrics.”

Wockner said he’ll continue dropping singles every month, alternating between an original and a cover from month to month.

Zanu – Heathens

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Texas-based artist Zanu starts journey toward becoming greatest showman with new album ‘MackingAintDead

HOUSTON, TX – You can get a lot more out of what you want in life if you know how to mack. That’s the sentiment behind the new album “MackingAintDead” from Texas-based artist Zanu. The Hip Hop project with heavy influences of R&B and Afrobeats is the culmination of two years’ worth of work from this up-and-coming young artist. At only age 22 he’s starting to garner attention throughout the South, and with this new album, is primed to leave his mark on the national stage.

“I want to be more than just an artist and entertainer,” he said. “I want to be the greatest showman there is. I want to redefine what an emcee is in modern day Hip Hop. I want to put on the greatest show the world has ever seen. I came from a lineage that knew nothing but excellence. My granddad came from the villages of Ghana and became a diplomat. My mom is a doctor and my pop is a businessman. My older sister is out here making moves with her life, just like me. I’ve trained in music for more than 10 years and I believe I got what it takes to be the best – to be one of those larger-than-life-artists. This is an album from a winner’s perspective. It’s an album about being the best in the room – the king. You want to learn how to win? Listen to the man born winning. Listen to the man born macking. Because Mackingaintdead man. My music comes from the perspective of unapologetic royalty, excellence, and bravado. I’m changing the world and I’ll look good as hell while doing it.”

Zanu said he started his journey as a musician when at the age of 7 he began learning how to play the piano. At age 8, he started dancing and by age 11, he was rapping and writing his own music. He grew up listening to Hip Hop and R&B, as well as Afrobeats – all of which find their way into his music in one way or another. This is especially true of his albums debut single, “Heathens,” which already has more than 15,000 streams since its release less than two months ago.

“It’s a fun vibe that my producer friend helped out with by adding some bells and high hats,” Zanu said. “We made it three years ago and I sat on it because I didn’t have the right lyrics for it. Then I was chilling one day and having fun and just started rapping. I was calling my friends heathens because we’re out here trying to get shit done and looking good doing it. We were always getting paid because we’re always on top of our shit. Girls want to be with a boss – with a heathen. You can be a boss without trying to be the hardest in the room. I don’t want to be the token black guy in the crowd. I’m running just as good as anyone else, or even better. All of that came together on this song.”

Zanu said he’s excited for new fans to get a taste of his music and ultimately, he has aspirations of creating music that will be known throughout the world. He wants to bring a new vision of Hip Hop that people have never heard before – something that breathes new life into an already lively genre.

Lilo – Horses Make Me Cry

Blog, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Young British singer/songwriter continues string of successful singles with cinematic power ballad
Horses Make Me Cry’

YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND – A young singer/songwriter from Northern England is beginning to make a splash on the international stage with her cinematic Pop songs, the most recent of which was officially released on 18th December.

Lilo is a 20-year-old musician from Yorkshire, England who has slowly been making a name for herself over the past three years. Her new single, “Horses Make Me Cry” will be the fourth single she’s released this year. It’s a power ballad with heavy piano, light strings and her signature soaring vocals that are perfectly suited to belt out the emotion that this song evokes. Born from the feelings that often arise from being overwhelmed by too many things – something most people around the world have experienced in 2020 – the song shines a light on the beautiful things of the world that are oftentimes so refreshing that they serve as a natural release for all the tension.

“In Europe, we have a lot of these amazing adverts of horses, and they’re usually emotional adverts,” Lilo said. “One night my mother and I were watching one of the adverts and she said, ‘I don’t know why, but horses make me cry.’ I started thinking about why horses are so emotional, and I realized it was because they’re so elegant and beautiful. That got me to thinking about the beautiful things in our lives that overwhelm us with emotion because they’re such a break from all of the other things we’ve been experiencing. That’s what this song is about.”

Lilo said that true to her style of music, “Horses Make Me Cry” is a cinematic Pop song that’s very dynamic and features a “big” sound with orchestral influences paired with catchy lyrics. She said she loves songs that make listeners feel something, and that every song she creates will endeavor to make people feel something. That said, this single is somewhat of a departure from the three others she released earlier this year, all of which were more upbeat.

“When it comes to my music, the main thing I want is to give people goosebumps,” Lilo said. “I want to make music that moves you. I want to have songs that are upbeat and make you dance, but also songs that draw you in. There’s a meaning and a purpose to all of my songs. I love melodies and I love breaking down every melody I’ve written and finding ways to improve it because I like every single sound to have a purpose and a meaning.”

Lilo said “Horses Make Me Cry” is one of six singles she’d planned on releasing over the course of a year, and that she has more music ready to go for 2021. She also said she might release an EP in the summer of 2021.

Higher Purpose Music Group – Get Ready

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Higher Purpose music group blends Hip-Hop, R&B and Pop with Gospel on debut self-titled album

CLEVELAND, OH – Higher Purpose is a four-member group composed of family and friends whose new self-titled album is bringing the Gospel in a unique style. By blending elements of praise with Hip Hop, R&B and Pop, “Higher Purpose” is a modern day take on timeless Gospel music with songs that are guaranteed to bless and uplift your spirits.

Made up of rapper Malorie-Charee and singers Cheritta, Kasey and Monte, Higher Purpose Music is a group that came together one year ago with the intention of serving God by inspiring the world through uplifting messages. They went to work immediately, co-writing songs and coming together every Friday in the recording studio to put together the 17 songs that make up their debut album. This urban inspirational group has created something that has more of a Hip Hop and Pop feel to it than what most would associate with traditional Gospel. By seamlessly intertwining Malorie’s raps with the harmonies of the other members of the group, the sound becomes something equal parts intriguing and groundbreaking.

“The album is about a person’s journey through life and meeting faith, and how God guides that individual through that process,” Malorie said. “There are many things that happen in life that take us down the wrong path, and this album is about how we often look back when we’re on the other side of those things and realize that we’ve come out better people, walking out and feeling more blessed.”

The debut single from the album is “Get Ready.” A music video for the song was released in September and has already garnered tens of thousands of views on the group’s YouTube channel. The group calls it a fun and happy song about how the Lord will send his blessings, even in the midst of a storm.

“It’s a motivational song about anticipating the good that’s going to come your way,” Malorie said. “It’s a great song to show what we’re trying to bring to the world with our music. The message of our music speaks to the personal walk with God. Our music encourages people to look within and reflect on their relationship with God and the struggles that come with wanting to be Christ-like but still being wretched and overcoming thru faith. I hope people are uplifted when they hear it and that it inspires them. We want people to know that God is real and He loves them no matter what. It doesn’t matter how messy or clean your life is, God loves you. Period. That’s the overarching message behind everything we do: You were created by God and He loves you and no one or anything is more powerful than that.”

Hosford – PPTP

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

East Coast artist Hosford takes music career
to the next level with new single ‘PPTP’

CAPE MAY COUNTY, NJ – An inspiration for a hit song may sometimes come from the most unusual places That’s the case for the new track from East Coast artist HosfordWhile working out with his stepfather one day, he was hit with a flash of insight. The two were drinking protein shakes. His stepfather was a tattoo and piercing artist. The idea for the hook to a song about Protein, Piercings, Tattoos and Pussy came to him, and almost immediately was accompanied by a beat in his head. He contacted his friend and fellow musician Shirea and the two put together “PPTP” in next to no time.

Today, that single is making the rounds along the East Coast and has primed this veteran musician for bigger things in front of a global audience. Having performed live thousands of times all up and down the East Coast for the better part of the past decade, Hosford has finally decided to record some of the originals he’s written along the way. “PPTP” is just one of many that he’s hoping to share with the world in the coming months, each of which will feature his unique sound and style.

“It’s hard to tie my sound to any one genre,” Hosford said. “I’m inspired by all the greats in Hip Hop like Wiz Kahlifa or Tupac or Big L or Eminem or Jay-Z. But I also love artists like Ed Sheeran or Rock bands like Creed. I’ve been working with guitarist, Shane Prusinski, on some of my songs, and he’s really into Punk Rock and Heavy Metal. So my sound really has a mixture of genres on the instrumental, and it’s just something different.”

Hosford said he was first introduced to music as a child when he watched his father as a drummer for many years. When he was 16, his mother purchased him some recording equipment, and he hasn’t looked back since. He’s developed his sound into something more mature and high quality along the way, and today, his goal is to leave records that are timeless and last forever.

“I want to leave behind a legacy that people will remember,” he said. “I want to come in and inspire people. I want to help them to have persistence and never give up. That’s my attitude as an artist – I never give up. I want to leave behind records that move people and help people and make them feel good when they listen to them – whether it’s a party track or emotional or about a family or even a sad track. We’re human beings. We’re emotional. And I want to make music that caters to that.”

Yungg Fattz – I Do Me

Blog, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Yungg Fattz releases four hot new singles to cap off 2020

LONG BEACH, CA – Yungg Fattz is an international artist from Long Beach, California whose original new sound is lighting up the world thanks to four new singles currently available across all streaming platforms.

The consummate performer, Yungg Fattz has made a name for himself both on the West Coast and throughout the Mountain Region as one of the premier entertainers of our day. He’s been doing shows from Denver to Vegas to Los Angeles, and he takes pride in making the crowd rock. But with 2020 putting a damper on all live performances, Yungg Fattz turned his attention to the recording studio. His four new singles are the result of a lot of hard work.

“If I’m not gonna perform, I’m gonna put out as much new music as I can,” he said. “When I can hit the stage again, I’ll have all new music for people to listen to. And my sound is different than most other rappers out there today. I like to do songs with someone singing the chorus. I don’t want to be just another gangsta rapper from Long Beach. I want to change how California artists are seen.”

The first of Yungg Fattz’s four singles is “I Do Me” featuring KC producer and artist Boi Blakc. It’s a song that lets the world know they’re listening to a true professional in the music business. Not only is he an entertainer but he’s a tour promoter, as well. He is deeply involved in his own management and marketing and is one of the members of Smoked Out Entertainment. He also hosts a traveling event called Barzfest which has seen him perform in multiple cities all over the U.S. “I Do Me” is a song that highlights all of those endeavors in a friendly and fun way for the listener.

By My Side” is a love song that Yungg Fattz recently released. He said it’s something he created specifically for the ladies, though he knows that a lot of guys out there will also love it. First recorded a few years back, the single is one that he revised and re-released this year to much acclaim. The streams he’s seen on that single alone have taken his notoriety to the next level and showcase his adept ability to fuse styles together, such as Hip Hop and Neo-Soul.

Another single currently available across all streaming platforms is “Stay Dangerous” which Yungg Fattz calls his “Long Beach anthem.” Inspired by Nipsy Hussle’s saying “they don’t say stay safe anymore, they say stay dangerous,” Yungg Fattz takes the idea and creates a fun homage to his hometown in a way that motivates anyone listening to be adventurous and take a leap of faith in whatever opportunities might be before them.

Finally, Yungg Fattz has released “I’m Yours” which also features Boi Blakc and is another love song, though with a little bit of a different vibe than “By My Side.” Of the four singles that he’s released this year, Yungg Fattz said “I’m Yours” is the one that has the most potential to leap onto the global stage, thanks to its catchy hook and groovy vibe.

Following the success of these singles, Yungg Fattz said he’s planning to launch yet another single called “Designer”. He also has more music planned to release in 2021 with hopes to eventually be touring and performing live again in the summer.

K Reese – A List

Ottawa’s K Reese blends multiple styles for unique new sound on forthcoming EP ‘Check Me Out’

OTTAWA, CANADA – K Reese is a Canadian artist who fuses his own niche of melodic sounds with R&B and Hip Hop influences for a sound that’s so original that he’s turning heads all over the world. This singer/songwriter with a multifaceted artistic style is tapping into current day sounds in ways that are reminiscent of greats like A Boogie and Tory Lanez, but his unique signature style is one-of-a-kind.

That style comes to the forefront with his new EP, “Check Me Out.” The EP dropped across all streaming platforms in early December. With six songs on the project, K Reese shows off his melodic singing and rapping while showcasing an adept ability to mix multiple genres. This project he describes as “softer songs” for people to enjoy with stories and experiences that he knows will connect with people far and wide.

Take “A List” for example – the debut single from the EP. It’s a song about love and finding the perfect partner. He takes a laid-back vibe filled with upbeat tones to describe the perfect person – that one particular woman that makes it onto the “A List” and who becomes the only one you think about.

“They’re the main one,” he said. “The only one. The No. 1. Even if it’s an up-and-down relationship, she’ll always be on the A List. I think a lot of people can relate to that, and at the end of the day, that’s what I want my music to be known for. I want to create music that helps people relate to what I’m saying and even re-live what I was living. That’s what I’m putting in my music. Some people may have been through what I’ve been through, or need to talk about their own things and let it out. They can use my music and express themselves that way. I can touch different genres of music, and with my singing and rapping, I’m able to touch different bases of people who live a wide variety of music.”

Raised in the nation’s capital of Ottawa, K Reese is a self-made prodigy who said he hopes to inspire younger generations of up-and-coming artists who are also trying to use music as a way of expression. With his distinguished style that combines smooth vocals, low baritone notes and effortless falsettos, K Reese shows the world not only a mastery of music but a strong drive that makes him a tenacious go-getter who won’t be satisfied until he has realized his dreams. What’s more, his creativity has expanded into the design and development of his own cover art, as well as directing and conceptualizing his own visuals.

“I’m determined to ensure my listeners are never disappointed with the music I put out,” he said. “I’m able to cross over into multiple genres – from R&B to Hip Hop to Pop to Afrobeats to Dancehall and everything in betweenI’m a well-rounded, accomplished artist, and this is only the beginning for me.”
