Quietchild – Quicksand

Quietchild won’t be quiet with powerful message behind new hit single ‘Quicksand’

MADISON, WIS – The slow, sinking feeling of despair from a broken relationship is beautifully depicted in Quietchild’s new hit single, “Quicksand.”

With sounds that crossover and explore the worlds of Pop and Trap, the music duo from Wisconsin – Cuyler Monahan and Galen Austin – have just released what they proclaim is their “best song yet” on Spotify. It was written as a personal message to a friend, but was instantly realized as a form of art everyone could relate to and enjoy.

“The message was that I understand because I’ve been through the same thing,” Cuyler said. “There’s so much euphoria in a new relationship but sometimes it can end in catastrophe. Those ups and downs – sweeping changes – are life, and we get through them. This song is so much like a painting – you see it once and like it, but the more you stare at it, the more you see and the more you gain from it. We worked very hard on this song to capture this emotion of quicksand.”

Galen’s brilliant Trap beat sets the rhythm to Cuyler’s deep and intimate voice, and then the beautiful contrast that joins the melody is the sweet and angelic voice of Drew “Dru” Dravis. The energy is in the chorus, and the emotion is found in the verse.

“Dru’s voice needs to be out there in the music world and we loved her sound for ‘Quicksand,’” Cuyler said. “There aren’t a lot of artists pushing the limits right now between Pop and Trap, so there’s opportunity in that space. Galen loves making Trap beats and I love EDM so our songs compromise those elements. The best part of making music is surprising the listener – giving them something they didn’t expect to love, or find out it’s something they learn later in life how much it meant to them.”

Galen and Cuyler have come a long way since they started making music together five years ago as high schoolers. But they knew they had something special when they won the 2018 Madison Area Music Award for Youth Album of the Year for their debut album “Euphoria.” Both with musical backgrounds, the friends actually hold two very different perspectives – Galen as an incredible drummer and audio engineer, and Cuyler as a long-time pianist, writer and vocalist.

“That’s what makes music good – differences,” Cuyler said. “We can argue on a single snare sound or how to pronounce a word, but at the end of the day that’s what makes our music so unique and good. We understand the music market is pretty crowded, but there’s space for something new and exciting. I think as music evolves over time, things have changed and we’re a part of that change.”

Quietchild will continue to be everything but quiet with another hit single on the way called “Paris Riviera.” Listen for yourself and find Quietchild on the following links.

Mailynn Severson – Movie Love

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Videos

New teenage singer Mailynn Severson breaks the mold for Pop genre with intriguing new sound and style

SAN JOSE, CA – The music from 16-year-old Mailynn Severson might on the surface sound like the innocent teenage girl trying to become the next big Pop star, but upon closer inspection her music doesn’t really fit in with that “cookie-cutter” Pop sound of today’s music industry. With lyrics that have deeper, almost melancholy allusions and a sound that fits more alongside the angst-driven female singers of the 1990s, Severson’s brand of Pop is something a little different. It’s a breath of fresh air in a crowded world of entertainment that’s often displayed with bubblegum packaging for young teenage singers.

That’s not to say that her style of music isn’t connected to today’s teenage audience. In actuality, her raw emotion and inside look at the thoughts and feelings of a young teenage girl in today’s American society is more closely akin to the real world than a lot of other music out there today. And as such she’s relating with a rapidly expanding wave of new fans all over the U.S. with her latest string of single releases.

En route to the release of her five-song EP “Circus Mirror,” Severson is dropping each of the singles from the project one month at a time. She started with the title track “Circus Mirror” in early June, and has received praise from listeners all over the world as other teenagers have immediately connected with the song’s messages of insecurity and self-doubt and body issues. She’s followed that up with her latest single, “Movie Love,” which is perhaps her most upbeat song from the forthcoming EP.

“I was on the phone with my boyfriend while I was writing it and I had this idea to create something that’s like that perfect love you see in the movies,” she said. “I tend to write more deep and sad songs, so this was kind of a step out of my comfort zone. It’s something I’ve been trying to replicate with some of the newer songs I’ve been writing – to lift the mood in some ways. But for the most part ‘Circus Mirror’ is the perfect outlet for girls my age and really gives some insight into teenage girls today, I think.”

Though Severson admits that her style of music does technically fit into the Pop genre, she’s quick to assert the fact that it’s a different, newer sound that’s more on the acoustic side of things than anything else. As such, it’s difficult to precisely label her style – which suits her fine, as she hopes to be an artist who can be influential across multiple genres. She’s inspired by artists such as Alicia Keys or Tori Amos, and said she aspires to write music that – like the songs of those legends – has a clear message that’s real and genuine.

Asid – Contigo

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Videos

Asid explodes into the scene with debut album ‘Asid Drop Vol 1’

SANTURCE, PUERTO RICO – An artist, producer and all around creative, Asid is already an electric musician with so much to say. His debut album, Asid Drop Vol 1 is a showcase of his and his team’s creativity, ingenuity and overall skill as they pulled the project together from scratch. This new album is exciting and fun in a way that allows Asid to truly shine as a musician. It may be his first artistic work, but it is surely a project to beat.

Growing up in a family of musicians, Asid was constantly surrounded by music. His Puerto Rican roots gave him access to genres and sounds that were crucial to finding his sound and once he found his step, there was no turning back. Asid began as a producer, only 16 years old and sharing his music with a local artist. “The first experience that led me to take this as a professional route was when I was showing some beats in a listening session. This is actually the time that I got my name. I played this artist my music and he told me, ‘The song you’re playing right now is gonna destroy the speakers. It’s gonna melt it like acid.’ That was when I really started to see a future in it.”

From that point on, Asid has been honing his talents in the studio and working to put together what is now his debut project. The project was put together by just himself and his partner GazWez. They used this album to create something that they could truly call their own. “My music is Latino, Spanish and Hip Hop, and Trap. There are a lot of Dancehall elements. My first language was English and I was raised in Puerto Rico so I have the best of both worlds. It’s led me to try to make something that captivates both of these audiences. Both of these people that I am.” His music truly blends two worlds to create something that is not only unique but speaks to the people on both ends of his own life.

The entirety of Asid Drop Vol 1 is an artistically driven project. It showcases a complex set of emotions within and between the tracks and layers it all on top of an amazing and intricate set of beats. The musicality brought to this project is a stand out part of the album. It honestly brings a whole other level to the tracks, making them each stand out in their own right. “Our music brings in so many elements from the languages to the music. We are more than just gimmicky artists. You can see how natural our music sounds.” The importance of their heritage and personal identity is obvious and gorgeous in each of these tracks.

On top of having an amazing debut album overall, Asid and his team have already released two music videos to go along with tracks on the project. They are still working to release another four videos to go alongside their music. Be sure to keep an eye out for these exciting projects and all that Asid has to come in the future, as he is truly an artist who is sure to continue to blow us all away.

AED Projek – Let’s Begin

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

Digital Music Creator Alonso Daniels offers dance track of the summer with hot new single ‘Let’s Begin’

ALEXANDRIA, VA – There’s one thing for certain that listeners of Alonso Daniels’ music can be sure of: there’s going to be a lot of energy. His latest single “Let’s Begin” is the perfect example. From the opening of the brash trumpet jazz intro to the very last beat drop, this dance-heavy upbeat track is the epitome of energy. It’s fun and upbeat and serves as the perfect introduction to what Daniels calls the “AED Projek” – a three-album extravaganza of upbeat songs that will take listeners on a musical journey over the next three years.

“It’s dance music that’s mainly instrumental, though sometimes there are lyrics,” Daniels said. “‘Let’s Begin’ is just the first single. My plan is to release three singles this year and then the first album, with two more albums over the next two years. And everything kind of gets fully explained through the videos that will come. Eventually I’ll have other musicians come along and play, as well. You can discover things along the way and take a journey.”

Daniels likened the project to something similar to what The Gorillaz would create in terms of elaborating on their music through other artistic mediums, like videos. “Let’s Begin” will establish the first step of that journey when the full video is released later this year. Even without the video, however, fans can enjoy the upbeat vibe that Daniels has created. The brash trumpet intro leads into a funky old-school hip-hop groove that includes record scratching and skipping lyrics.

“It’s definitely something you can dance to,” Daniels said. “It’s a song that says, ‘We’ve gone through a lot of rough times over the past year, so let’s just go and have fun right now.’ That’s really all it is – just dancing and having fun. Nothing serious. What comes later will come later.”

Daniels is a relative newcomer to the music recording industry, though he did spend some years as a manager for a band based out of France. He first came to music through his mother, who was a concert pianist. He said he remembers listening to her practice piano all day throughout his teenage years, and she even at one point tried to teach him how to play, though he never took to it. But she did instill within him a passion for good music, and eventually he started studying other artists who he considered to be some of the greats – such as The Beatles, Carlos Santana, Beck, Pink Floyd, and Maroon Five. Any band who created good energy caught his attention, and it’s that kind of vibe he tries to create in his own music.

“It’s nice when you dance to something and just let out a lot of energy,” he said. “That’s what I like to do and what I like to create. I don’t even really consider myself a musician as much as a digital music creator. And at the end of the day I hope people hear my music and say that it was inspiring, fun and energetic. Eventually I hope its music that will inspire people to think different and do better for themselves and for others. But for right now, let’s just have fun and dance.”

Daniels said his next single will be “Kiss, Kiss, Kiss,” which should drop later this summer. To listen to his music, or to follow him on social media, please visit the following links:

Jobbaloon – Days

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

Detroit duo Jobbaloon welcomes fans into otherworldly experience with debut album ‘The Invitation’

DETROIT, MI – It’s difficult to describe the music of Jobbaloon. It’s psychedelic, but catchy. It’s spiritual, but poppy. It’s thoughtful and serious but contains elements of dark humor, satire and straight-up silliness (as the duo humorously puts it in their bio, “Their commitment to never sell out is unwavering…except for the purpose of professional success, in which case there is no limit to the level that they would compromise their principles.”) It doesn’t fit into just one specific genre, yet it remains universally appealing enough to be enjoyed by any type of music fan. It could almost be considered singer-songwriter (with acoustic guitar, piano, and lilting, emotional vocal melodies) but has electronic elements that you might hear in a modern-day pop beat. It seems no musical instrument is off-limits – from strings and horns, to synth sounds and trap high hats, reminiscent of the experimental aspects of the baroque pop of the 1960s.

That said, Jobbaloon’s premier album, “The Invitation” is just plain good music, with a plethora of very positive reviews to back up that claim. It’s an album meant to be listened to from beginning to end, in one sitting, as if being guided on a mystical, musical journey. Similar to Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” or The Beatles’ “Sergeant Pepper,” it’s a cohesive piece of art. It begins and ends with spoken-word by a Jamaican Zen Master, book-ending six single-worthy tracks, including the upbeat and undeniably catchy “Days,” whose music video is a reimagining of the famous “Singin’ in the Rain” scene

Hailing from Detroit, Jobbaloon is doing something very unusual as it pertains to their current local music scene. With Jack White-influenced garage-rock being a staple sound in the city, a Jobbaloon show is less like seeing a band, and more like a psychedelic experience, complete with abstract video projection, an atmospheric light show, smoke, confetti, and more – all sitting atop electronic music and live singing. Their new live show format, known as Jobbaloon 2.0, is sure to give audiences a truly unique experience, when it debuts later this year.

If that all sounds too serious, please be directed to their satirical web series, “Pastor Roy” – a fictional Westboro Baptist Pastor (in the vein of Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat) who condemns everything from pop icons and democrats in his online sermons, to everyday people he interviews in his man-on-the-street segments. Its dark, offensive humor will have you simultaneously laughing out loud and cringing, much like the antics of Tim and Eric, Eric Andre, or the work of the late Andy Kaufman. The resulting online controversy, and that confusion that the majority of audiences experience when they can’t tell if it’s real or satire, is enjoyed by its creators.
