ME Blog

Iesha Sekou is the Founder and CEO of Street Corner Resources Inc., a not for profit 501(c)(3), founded in 2007 and operating in Harlem, USA.

Street Corner Resources’ mission is to help young people by providing greater access to education, training opportunities, real employment and other resources which help improve their lives and help them stay away from gun and gang violence.

Iesha encourages the use of innovative methods to challenge youth to improve their own lives. She facilitates life shaping and mind changing workshops including, “Rekindling the Inner Spirit to Succeed” and” To Be or Not To Be” – an anti-gang workshop.

Iesha’s responsibilities with Street Corner Resources include managing the Cure Violence Anti-Gun Violence program. Street Corner Resources is one of 18 Cure Violence sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Cure Violence strives to stop the spread of violence in communities by using the methods and strategies associated with disease control – detecting and interrupting conflicts, identifying and treating the highest risk individuals, and changing social norms around violence.

Congressman Charles Rangel proclaimed her a visionary whose work has made a significant impact on the Harlem community. She is a dynamic and powerful motivational speaker and is one of the premier New York advocates against gun and gang violence.

Iesha Sekou is a graduate of Bethune Cookman College in Daytona Beach Florida, receiving her BA Degree in English. Sekou’s career began in education, which explains her relentless enthusiasm to uplift and empower young people.

Iesha has spent countless hours at rallies and press conferences denouncing violence. You can also find her facilitating panels around the city, working to raise awareness of the ills of urban youth violence.

Last year, Governor Cuomo reached out to Iesha for advice on creating the toughest gun laws in the country.
Reverend Al Sharpton named Iesha Sekou as Anti-Violence Coordinator for the National Action Network.

NYPD has routinely invited Iesha Sekou to address its new recruits on community respect and interaction.

Iesha Sekou is a member of the New York State Board of Regents Blue Ribbon Committee charged with examining the educational challenges and opportunities boys and young men of color face on a daily basis and to recommend strategies to address the challenges and expand opportunities to increase their educational success.

[New Video] J.A.Y. Young Feat. Boosie Bad Ass & Z-Ro @JayYoung713

Videos

This Houston born emcee has been on his job for several years trying to solidify a position on retail racks across the nation. After enduring his hometown’s rise to fame in which many of the city’s biggest stars signed to major labels, J.a.y. Young still works the independent scene with his recording home, Showtyme Entertainment. Many artists would fold and enter the workforce, realizing that accomplishing their dream was harder work than first thought. J.a.y. Young is built differently than most.

Splitting his youth between Houston and San Antonio, J.a.y. Young was forced to mature at a very young age. At only seven years old, J.a.y. Young was forced to become the man of his family after his father was paralyzed in an accident. After years of struggling to provide for his family, he found writing as a way of getting away from the pain of reality. Shy at first about his new talent, J.a.y. Young soon became a strong artist and found himself highly sought after. After several meetings with Showtyme Entertainment, an upstart independent record company based in Houston, J.a.y. Young signed as their first solo artist. After playing changing roles with Showtyme Entertainment and then being moved to being the flagship artist, J.a.y.

Young has released a handful of mixtapes and is gearing up for his debut solo album. The release of his latest music video ‘Friend$’ along with southern legends Boosie Badazz & Z-Ro is a launching pad for the summer, J.a.y. Young is banking on making a huge splash in the following months. Lord knows, with all the struggles he has been through during his life and the hard work he has put in with his recording career, J.a.y. Young is far overdue an opportunity to excel at something finally after his 20 something years.

Hitting the streets with a visual that is real AF and also comical anyone who has been stabbed in the back by a friend can relate. Check out the video here!
