Darshania Fuses New Age with Hip Hop for “Heart Chakra”

ST. CROIX – As a yogini, healing artist, musician, and writer, Darshania continues her life journey with the release of the album “Heart Chakra.

The full-length album containing seven tracks was produced by Kiva, DJ Cave, Abstract Butta Fingaz, and the late Ras G. “Heart Chakra” represents a body of work that answers a call from deep inside the planet and liberates the hearts of listeners while creating a more beautiful world

“My voice has always been something that has been a healer for me through the things I’ve been through in my life,” said Darshania. “Through writing and performing, there’s a connection that happens when you hear music like this. It’s such a universal language; you can touch so many people even if they don’t speak your language.

Diving into the new age, with mystical melodies and soothing beats, the single “Telepathic” focuses on love. While some refer to love as only romantic, Darshania says the song “explores the depth of love between a mother and her child, and her partner. It explores the love between the ocean, the love with nature, and having a love for ritual and an understanding how important that is to keep that going and your life to be connected to the Earth.

The “Telepathic” music video was shot on a California beach demonstrates these forms of love while showcasing the oceanfront vistas and sandy meditation

Shifting gears, Darshania, who is of West Indian, Blackfoot Creole, and Filipino heritage, gives listeners an inside look at her journey from a life of hardships to a successful artist, musician, and mediation guru.

In her single “Prism Pyramid,” produced by the late Ras G., Darshania said, “I was predicting a better future for myself. I wrote that song when I was living in a bad place with a bunch of roaches everywhere. I literally went downstairs in the studio of that place and recorded that song myself, and it was me wanting to create my future and speaking to myself. But it also was empowerment to remember that your mental, physical, and spiritual health are more valuable than anything else that you have.”

With additional tracks featuring guest vocalists Illuminati Congo and Poetic S., “Heart Chakra” takes listeners on a spiritual odyssey while permitting music to be their guide. “The journey is about loving yourself. That journey is about tapping into that frequency of your heart and in my spiritual practice. It is believed that the heart, rather than the brain is the source of human wisdom,” explained Darshania.

While some music aims at the darker side of life, Darshania’s music is vastly different. “We need to bring the love back into our music. We are not progressing by sharing bad messages, disrespecting our women or brothers, or sharing anything involving violence and killing. That’s just killing our people. It’s time for evolution to step forward and step through because love is what’s going to lead the way.”

Al-Rickjames – Sprinter Van (Feat. Trapmonstajugg)

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Jamaican Vibes Come Alive on “Trap Caribbean,” as Al Rickjames Brings It

ATLANTA – As trap music becomes more mainstream, many artists struggle to stand out among others. For Al Rickjames, the music speaks for it.

Utilizing his Jamaican heritage and love for trap music, Rickjames combined both for a unique sound on his first album, “Trap Caribbean.”

“I use my Jamaican culture with dancehall reggae music,” said Al Rickjames. “It is a mixture of trap music and dance. I mix both cultures and call it Trap Caribbean.”

A Jamaican native, Rickjames is known throughout the club scene as a talented hip hop, dancehall, and songwriter who infuses the sounds from his hometowns of Montego Bay, Jamaica, and Atlanta. The result is a diverse collection of melodies and catchy hooks.

While his discography is vast, “Trap Caribbean” is the first album the artist released, and fans are in for a masterpiece that throws down a nonstop vibe. Packed with fifteen singles, the album is on multiple streaming platforms and getting noticed as a fan favorite within days of its release.

“Trap Caribbean” begins with “Anything You Want,” a mixture of all things Al Rickjames. This dancehall gem jumps off from the start and never lets up. “This song is like a metaphoric word for me because it can mean anything,” he said. “It could be talking about a woman, and it can also be talking about living in the street and how things can get crazy things. It’s about me just being a man, and I’m saying that I can give you anything you want.”

Featuring fellow artist Jubee Kane, “Get Back There” is an afro reggae rap song that demonstrates Rickjames ability to blend genres and get a spectacular sound that no one in the industry can match. “I’m trying to be different. I’m coming at it in a way like nobody. When you listen to it, you just catch a vibe,” he said.

While Rickjames is riding the current vibe of “Trap Caribbean,” life has not always been good. Struggling throughout his childhood, the 35-year-old artist landed in prison for ten years. Instead of allowing those ten years to become a life sentence of bitterness and regret, Rickjames spent the time educating himself and planning for a better future. “Ten years is a long time, man,” said Rickjames. “It made me come out as a positive person because I took the time and really changed myself so that I could come out as a positive person.”

The evolution from leaving the hood to living a successful life is evident in his album. “As an artist. I’m trying to be positive in my music, not negative. Even though I’ve been through rough circumstances in my life, I still put out positive music,” he explained.

Summing up “Trap Caribbean” and its vast array of separate genres and catchy vibes, Rickjames said, “People in the world want to hear different sounds. Nobody sounds like me. I’m creating my own sound. It’s a different wave. It’s my style.”

The Corduroy Blue – Could it be?

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Retro-Inspired, The Corduroy Blue, Defines Alt-Rock with “Could It Be?”

ATLANTA – A rising alt-rock band, The Corduroy Blue is taking fans on a nostalgic journey to some of the best sounds from the 90s to 2000s, coupled with today’s cutting lyrics and electric performances with flashes of Elton John and The Beatles.

Taking inspiration from music ranging from the 1960s to the early 2000s, brothers Atticus and Luke Roness have taken the Atlanta music scene by storm and are gearing up for national attention with their band, The Corduroy Blue.

“Our music is a really cool mix between mainstream and the retro sounds. It’s not underground or indie,” explained Atticus. “It’s genuine. We are doing music that we love.”

That “genuine” style is on full display in their latest melodic pop-rock song, “Could It Be?” Written pre-pandemic, the song comments on loneliness during the age of virtual connections coupled with the band’s signature pounding drums, soaring vocals, and catchy hooks. The track takes listeners on a journey climaxing in an explosion of energy and good vibrations representing the best from The Corduroy Blue.

“We all have the capacity to be connected, and still these may be the loneliest times you’ve ever been in especially coming out of the pandemic,” said Atticus. “It’s funny that it foreshadowed the pandemic and the loneliness you get from having contact only by the internet.”

With vibes like 90s pop-rock and Third Eye Blind, Luke agrees and adds that the “Could It Be?” music video gives the song a carefree yet collaborative look at its lyrics.

“We enjoy matching visuals with our song to see exactly where our minds were when we were like writing it and, you know, producing it,” said Luke. “Each song brings a different mood and tone, so every music video feels very different.”

The “Could It Be?” video was shot in Chattanooga by Atlanta’s visual artist and photographer Matthew Fain, who the brothers consider the third member of The Corduroy Blue.

With similar sounding vocals and being just 18 months apart in age, Atticus and Luke say they are more like twins than just brothers. But fans who pack the Atlanta metro venues know the difference. Atticus is the duo’s frontman who explodes with energetic moves and gyrations while belting out The Corduroy Blue lyrics and playing guitar. With his curly hair and ripped physique, Luke kicks it on the drums while singing background vocals and harmonies.

Even though The Corduroy Blue lends its sounds from alt-rock bands of the past, they are not a cover band. The duo utilizes the 90s to 2000s vibes to create The Corduroy Blue genre. “We are doing something different,” acknowledged Atticus. “There isn’t anybody making the kind of music that we’re making. We are aiming to make a song for everybody.”

Summing up their musical goals, Luke said, “If you can take a little break from reality, that’s really why we make music and perform. We aren’t doing it for the clout or whatever. We just want to bring life to our music and enjoyment in the world with our music.”

With a growing discography, The Corduroy Blue is rearing up for another single to drop in January. Still, in the meantime, they are packing in Atlanta-area venues with their eclectic sound and high-energy performances. Future concert information is always posted on their socials.

GB Flame – Want it my way

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

“Emotion$ 2” Burns with Passion as GB Flame Gets Lyrical about Real Life

LOUIS – Independent hip hop and rap artist GB Flame is not holding back with his latest album, “Emotion$ 2.”Packed with melodic rhymes and smooth hooks, he brings real-life issues to the forefront while keeping it real and offering hope for a better tomorrow.

“Growing up in St. Louis has made me trauma-informed. Seeing a lot of tragedy and then seeing how people interact with each other in the city made a great impact on my music,” said GB Flame. “With my music, I’m going for a positive outlook and bring some positivity to the world.”

Combining his love for hip hop and rap, “Emotion$ 2” is packed with songs of both genres. Influenced by Lil Wayne’s iconic ability to deliver catchphrases and punch lines, Flame showcases his versatility by switching from lyrical hip-hop to hard-hitting rap tracks. Setting him further apart from others is his vibe and clarity. “Other than the positivity, I have a lot of music with a fast-paced delivery. I also make sure there is a lot of clarity in the music,” he explained.

Intentionally choosing to write and record songs void of guns, drugs, and sex, Flame is making a difference one song at a time with content many other artists shy away from, such as mental health.

The eight-track album, “Emotion$ 2,” begins with “Trip The Great (TTG),” which pays tribute to Flame’s best friend who died by suicide. With a melodic tone and slower approach combined with a rapid-fire delivery, “Trip The Great (TTG)” focuses on the pressures of everyday life and especially those facing the black community. “The song is more about just opening up yourself when you feel closed; just having a conversation and using the words to seek help because, in our community, people don’t speak about those problems,” he said.

Displaying his ability to perform hip hop, “Contraband” puts Flame in the elite group of artists who can do it all. Representing his gritty side while blending his unique artistry, “‘Contraband’ shows you that I can get on a beat with my lyrics and make positive music there as well.”

While “Emotion$ 2” is a worthy album and puts Flame in the conversation as an up-and-coming artist to watch, “Want It My Way” may be the album’s best song that showcases the St. Louis native. With a smooth groove coupled with Flame’s poetic rhapsodies, the message is clear: “Want it my way. I don’t compromise.”

“In this world, we can be negative or positive,” he said. “I want everybody to look at the world through a positive life and realize there’s a solution for every problem. People need to focus on their own business, and don’t worry about comparing ‘cuz the comparison is what kills people’s pockets.”

In addition to writing and performing, Flame plays the saxophone and piano and is home in the studio. While he relies on others to mix and master his tracks, Flame prides himself is his creativity, ability to adapt, and work ethic.

With an upcoming music video in its final stages, Flame gives fans more music, which he drops on all streaming platforms. Recently, “Hats Off,” a freestyling masterpiece shot in his hometown, satisfies fans until his next big release. Until then, fans love “Emotion$ 2” for its bold truth, determined lyrics, and melodic mastery.

Mitchell Heaton – Don’t Know Why

Mitchell Heaton of the HiCats Find His “Mount Hope” in First Solo EP
HAMILTON, ONTARIO – The Canadian group, The HiCats, are well known for their versatile hip hop lyrics and strong musical confidence, as each song gives listeners a special message. The loyal fan base of the group can rest easy; The HiCats are not breaking up. However, member Mitchell Heaton is gearing up to release his debut solo EP, “Mount Hope,” which promises to give HiCats fans something more to love.

The EP contains the single, “Anxious,” which is “really, really cool and different,” explained Mitchell Heaton. “It’s just me on the song doing the hook and verse. I am super happy about that one.”

While “Mount Hope” contains five original Heaton gems, “Anxious” will stand out due to its slower tempo. “It still makes you want to move,” he said. “It has a Japanese style to it. I rarely would try something like this, but it just spoke to me. The melodies are slower, and it will make you do the head bob thing,” he quipped.

With production on some music videos in its final stages, “Mount Hope” will drop in February 2022. However, fans should stay on the lookout for a single that may drop early, given Heaton’s love for surprising fans with new music.

Even though Heaton is pursuing his solo career, the HiCats’ latest single, “Don’t Know Why,” is gaining attention across the globe by HiCats fans and new listeners who discover the hip hop group. Today, two of the six original HiCats, Heaton and Stealth Elementz, continue the group’s legacy and feed fans with creative and noteworthy music.

Coming off the back of the HiCats’ EP “Hybrid Music,” the vibe of “Don’t Know Why” is Drake-like, Heaton said, “We’ve been trying to experiment with making music and not so much hip-hop tracks and expand a little bit. So ‘Don’t Know Why” is totally different for us. Way back, we did a lot of hip hop type songs, and there wasn’t a lot of girl-oriented music.”

While experimenting with different sounds and entering the world of post-break-up songs, the HiCats strike gold again as they connect directly with fans. The anxiety and stress of relationships drip from each verse, and the chorus leaves you nodding your head, acknowledging that you’ve felt the same way too.

Returning to their traditional hip hop style, the HiCats are completing two additional songs with Benny The Butcher and Jon Harvey from Monster Truck. These singles will satisfy their loyal fans while giving them a little different sound too. Heaton said fans are in for some awesome music.

Looking ahead to his solo work, Heaton promises HiCats fans, “If you enjoy HiCat music, I think you really will enjoy my solo stuff, and there’s something for people that may not listen to our music. You’re going to enjoy this ‘Mount Hope’ that I’m doing on the side as a solo project. It’s some of my very best work – guaranteed.”
