Tora Woloshin – America

Tora Woloshin offers stripped-down vulnerable single while making plea for change in new song ‘America’

ALAMEDA, CA – After nearly a decade of high production, the glitz and glamor of Hollywood and multiple world tours, International artist Tora Woloshin is bringing a stripped down version of her music that showcases a more vulnerable side of her artistry.

Her new EP “America” is just her and the piano. That’s quite an intimate offering from an artist who has enjoyed the biggest limelight available to a musician. She first came to notoriety as a finalist on The X Factor USA where she was mentored by Simon Cowell. That happened in 2011 and in the years since she signed with a label and did multiple tours worldwide. She worked with major artists such as Jim Jones and Timbaland, and performed on stage with artists such as B.o.B., Ne-Yo, Flo Rida, Method Man, Pink, and more.

The high production value of her past work is nothing like what she’s bringing with “America,” and that’s intentional. She said at this point in her career, she’s matured both as an artist and a woman. She wants her music to reflect that in intimate and authentic ways. So as she lays down melodies on the piano, she’s also letting loose some raw emotion with the incredible vocals she’s become known for over the years.

“It’s very intimate,” she said. “it’s very raw. There are no special effects on my voice. It’s very personal, and I think it will be personal for a lot of other people, too.”

The first single from the project is “America” and the music video is slated to drop on Feb.14. Tora said it’s her “love song to America” and serves as both an expression of her frustrations of what’s been happening to America in cycles since the country first was formed, and a deeply passionate plea to her fellow Americans to love and respect the freedoms we have and great opportunities we enjoy.

She’ll follow that with the Anarobic animated music video on July 4 to go along with the release that Tora said is in the same vein as the art of the adult animated classic “Family Guy.” The song will delve deeper into the story that she starts with the first single. It doesn’t hold back on its challenge to the world to take a new perspective when it comes to the oppression of government on American citizens.

“It’s very political,” she said. “The government is suffocating the American people and we can’t breathe. They keep doing things to people and it’s just a shame. We’re exploiting a lot of the corruption in the video. I’m trying to make a change through my music. I know a lot of messages get sent through music, but too many artists today are sending out the wrong messages. I think people need to start being shown better music that teaches and helps and guides and inspires.”

The final single from the EP is “Eclipse” which deviates in subject matter from the first two singles. It’s more of a love song and serves as a vehicle for Tora’s vulnerability in romantic relationships. She said it’s a song that metaphorically says we need to watch each other and love each other and unite through the hardships of life.  The “Eclipse” music video together with the EP is already available across streaming platforms.

Marvin – Bovaird Dr

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

‘Beware of Dog’ kicks off the year for young Canadian artist Marvin

TORONTO, CANADA – 2021 is destined to be the year of Marvin.

This new artist from Toronto, Canada is entering into the music industry with a splash that already has insiders turning their heads. That’s because of his latest EP, “Beware of Dog,” which is the kind of attention-grabbing, genre-bending sound that only comes around once in a generation. Marvin’s mix of Trap and Soul melodies showcases an audio versatility and a penchant for writing relevant lyrics. His style is unique and fresh and is already gathering an unprecedented following to him.

“Beware of a Dog” is officially set to drop on Feb. 25. The project explores and outlines the toxic side of relationships. Across four songs, Marvin discusses a tale of bad choices leading to pain and suffering, which ultimately puts him on a road of self-realization and personal growth

“It’s a story that entails the role of a ‘dog’ in the modern dating scene and the detrimental impact it plays in romantic relationships,” Marvin said. “It’s a project that says beware of individuals who champion this role of the ‘dog’ because toxicity in these relationships are inevitable. Relationships come and go, and the ones you cherish are the ones you need to keep forever. So stop your bad habits and progress as a human to reach that point of self-actualization.”

This journey starts with the single “I Hate Your Friends / Caught Cheating.” It serves as the wake-up moment to the toxic relationship described on the EP, when the friends of Marvin’s girlfriend throw him under the bus and reveal that he’s been cheating. He still tries to save the relationship by trying to cast her friends in a negative light, however his attempt at manipulation failsThis leads to the second track on the project, “Say Goodbye,” where Marvin is forced to say goodbye to the girl and acknowledge both his and her relationship flaws. With the third track on the project “Like Me,” Marvin begins to lament what he has lost while realizing the role he played in the midst of thtoxicity.

“It’s me realizing I’m nothing but trouble and I brought a lot of misfortune and pain to someone I should have done the opposite for,” he said. “It’s probably better for her to move on. And then with the last track, ‘Bovaird Drive,’ I’m driving throughout the city reflecting on the bad habits that affect my life and the negative decisions that have gotten me to where I am while reminiscing on the good times we’ve had, which ultimately leads to self-realization.”

Marvin said he worked closely with producer Eden with whom he has previous works with, to craft something that captures a lot of Trap elements but blends them with a more soulful, R&B vibe. Ultimately, it’s a project that is very honest, transparent, and revealing— elements that Marvin has consistently brought to the table.

“What I really want my music to do is what other artists have done for me – to be relatable,” he said. “I’m going to write about relevant topics – relationships or moments in life – because it relates to things we all go through, you’ll want to listen to it more and more.

Marvin said he has a lot more content on the way and plans to release many songs and a potential project throughout the year.

Highmann – Hard Time

Blog, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Highmann brings energy and fun with new album ‘Hard Time’

CHICAGO, IL – From the south side of Chicago, born in the Robert Taylor Projects, comes a rapper who is all about the good times. His name is Jesse Webbs but he operates under the stage name Highmann – a nod to getting high a lot both in his life and in his music. It’s also a light-hearted and playful moniker that is the perfect introduction to his fun wordplay and upbeat sound, which is put on full display with his new EP “Hard Time.”

Set to release across all streaming platforms on Feb. 26, “Hard Time” has seven songs that offer a diverse mixture of rhythms and grooves that will get people bopping their heads and put a smile on their feet. It’s a project that features a lot of heavy beats against lyrics that explore everything from being in a strip club, to having a bad trip, to going out with a lady and even a fun song that’s all about him being a rapper.

“I like to really concentrate on a nice beat with a melody and then do breakdowns and stuff,” Highmann said. “I have a lot of different sounds. I use a lot of bass drums and 808s and 606s. I try to incorporate horns whenever I can, or any instrument I can get the sound good that I can rap to. I do a lot of fast rapping, and I’m always mixing it up.”

That signature style is perhaps best displayed on the title track from the EP, “Hard Time.” Highmann plays with the words as he talks about how he navigates through hard times. While most of the other songs on the project are upbeat, this one is laid back and mellow, emphasizing his diversity as an artist. “Creepin” on the other hand, is an energetic and fast song that tells three stories of how he’s creepin – on an enemy, with a woman, and just generally sneaking around in the world.

“I wanted to put out a project that shows people that I make music that not only sounds good but is interesting,” he said. “I’m not saying a bunch of words that rhyme. I tell a good story. I’m entertaining and funny. And I just make good-sounding music.”

Highmann said he has always wanted to do music and credits artists such as Abla Homes, Henry Horner and Stateway Gardens for helping him to develop his style of hardcore mixed with party music. On this particular project, he worked with producer Beat by Jae to develop the diverse production and various Rap styles. And at the end of the day, he said he knows he made a collection of music that he would like to hear.

“I think I made some good songs,” he said. “We’ll see what other people think. It has always been a dream. And now that I have the ability to do everything myself, I’ve decided to go for it. This time right now is the time.”

KCAM – Machine Queen

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Chef by day, musician by night: East Coast artist KCAM shows mastery of creative technique with new single ‘Machine Queen’

RICHMOND, VA – A hot new single from East Coast artist KCAM is the ultimate vibe track. “Machine Queen” is the kind of spacey, ethereal Hip Hop groove that has you simultaneously bopping your head while leaning back and just relaxing. From the very first bars, this young artist from Richmond, Virginia invites you into a zone that immediately puts you into a chill mood and makes way for his tantric flow. His voice is almost hypnotic as it rolls across the beat. It is, in a word: chill.

“It’s definitely melodic,” said KCAM (pronounced Cam). “I like a lot of 70s and 80s vocal tones, and I try to match that as much as I can with today’s R&B. I’m also a big Pop culture movie guy – especially the 80s to early 2000s – which is why I’m talking about Marty McFly (a character from the 80s film “Back to the Future) and using that as a metaphor for how this girl is treating me. She’s my machine queen.”

Operating out of the south side of Richmond, KCAM is a chef by day and a musician by night. He’s a naturally talented artist who found his creative outlet through food. He graduated from culinary arts school and has been working as a chef for the past few years. Along the way, he realized that the same kind of chaos that takes place in the kitchen can take place in the recording studio, and his approach to making music began to mimic his approach to making beautiful and tasty food. It wasn’t long before the licks he was creating in the studio were just as succulent as the treats he would put on people’s plates … and the rest is history.

“Making food is very similar to making music to me,” he said. “That’s what got me fully immersed in music. I do private dinners and catering and stuff like that, and when I considered doing music as well, it was like I finally stopped living in a box.”

One of the things that makes KCAM stand out from others in the industry is the way he layers different sounds into each song. He said his approach is to go into the studio with a lot of different concepts and then try to layer how he’s feeling with the words he’s writing with the sounds he’s creating – all the while envisioning what it will feel like when he performs it in front of a crowd. After developing and laying down the direction of the song, I send it off to my engineer, Holdingold to polish the vision.

“Sonically, it’s just different,” he said of his sound. “Most people think you’re either one way or another in the industry today, but I can balance both sides by staying true to myself. I’m delivering passionate music. I’m always in the mindset that the more I listen to my own music, the better it can be. And I hope my music will help others open themselves to new things.”

KCAM said he has another single called “Leave The Floor” slated to drop on Feb. 8, and that more music will be coming throughout the year.

Josh Royal – Certified Loverboy

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo, Videos

Fast-rising young artist fuses sounds while spreading love on new single

LOUIS, MO – At only the age of 20, Josh Royal is setting the music industry on fire. This incredibly talented entertainer from the Midwest has been honing his craft over the last few years as he studies music engineering at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida. Along the way, he’s put together a handful of singles that he’s sharing with the world, starting with hislatesthit “Certified Loverboy.”

Royal said the song is one that perfectly captures his essence as an artist, with a strong R&B base fused with other genres that he loves.

“I’m very diverse,” he said. “I’m not just an R&B artist though it is my favorite genre. But I’m real and pure and I create timeless music. It doesn’t matter how many times you listen to it, it doesn’t get old and you appreciate it more and more over time. With this new single, it’s basically me not being afraid to let everybody know I’m a loverboy. I feel like in today’s world everybody is kind of looking at love in a negative way. People just don’t want to do it because of how society shows love. If you listen to a lot of Rap music today and how they talk about women, it’s savage. I want to show a positive side of love and a softer side to it.”

Though Royal is just now bursting onto the global scene, he’s been doing music for 10 years. He was discovered by a producer doing a project for Atlantic Records at age 11 when a YouTube video of him singing “Happy Birthday” to his baby cousin went viral. That led to opportunities to write and record with other artists specifically producing a demo for a group called Mindless Behavior. He began to learn how to produce music and further developed his entertainment style by performing multiple live shows. He was a finalist in the Fox Teen Talent Competition, made it far through the audition process with NBC’s The Voice, and has opened for artists such as Chante Moore, Ray Goodman, Jacquees, Sammie, and more.

Today, he has a vault of unreleased music that he’s planning on dropping steadily throughout 2021. He’s also working on more music videos with a cinematic style inspired by his all-time favorite artist, Michael Jackson. The first of those videos will be for a single from his hit album “Need Your Attention,” which is already available on streaming platforms.

Kami Elrod – Bluebirds

Blog, ME Blog, Music, Promo

New single featuring haunting vocals of Kami Elrod offers hope in the face of emotional pain

COLUMBIA, MD – There are a lot of people in the world living in pain – sometimes emotional, sometimes physical, and sometimes both. That deep pain is the source of inspiration for Julie Elrod and her new single “Bluebirds.” Featuring the ethereal vocals of her daughter, Kami Elrod alongside the creative flow of notorious rapper Lost Angel of Havik, the song explores the depths of pain and offers a new perspective for those who deal with it on a daily basis.

I’ve had nine knee surgeries, a hip replacement, and two failed spine fusions in my life and I live in constant pain,” said Julie Elrod who also owns one of the biggest karate schools in Maryland. “The words in the song are based on how I feel a lot of the time. It’s a sad song because it’s about a guy who wants to be with his mom who has passed away, and he’s in emotional pain. People have pain they live with, and this is a song they can identify with. It hits straight to the core.”

The song bounces back-and-forth between Kami Elrod’s singing and Lost Angel of Havik’s rapping. The lyrics were written by Julie Elrod with some additional writing credits from her son, Wyatt Wayne, and Lost Angel of HavikThe original beat was produced by Rock It Productions but was re-invented by Elrod, who had violin, cello, and piano tracks added in

Julie Elrod said she’s always had a love for writing music, and though the Karate studio has been her primary business for the past 36 years, she’s always dabbled in writing music. When the studio was forced to shut down because of the lockdown associated with the global pandemic, she put most of her time and energy into writing as many songs as she could. “Bluebirds” is the first but will be followed by other songs that she plans to release in 2021.

“I want people to hit home and identify with my music,” she said. “I also want to showcase my daughter’s voice which is hauntingly beautiful. Kami’s voice is mesmerizing, and I love to listen to it over and over. But I also want people to relate to the words in the song and find meaning in it. I want them to know they’re not alone and that we recognize the pain and depression that so many people feel. A lot of people are in that same position. Just because people are smiling on the outside doesn’t mean you know what they’re going through on the inside.”

Complexion Of Sound – Lose Control

Best artists in New York come together to redefine EDM and House music on new project ‘Complexion of Sound’

NEW YORK, NY – A new sound that is redefining the genres of EDM and House music is about to be unleashed on the world through a new project called “Complexion of Sound.” Featuring a collaboration of some of the East Coast’s best artists and producers, this string of singles – set to begin with “Lose Control” on Jan. 8 – is a high-class-meets-underground fusion of gritty EDM and splashy House music. Executively produced by businessman Bryan Glass, “Complexion of Sound” is a vision that will enlighten listeners all over the world.

“I’m a huge fan of electronic music and I wanted to make a splash in the House and EDM world,” Glass said. “I always thought I could do it just as good, or better, with the right people. So I built a studio and hired a bunch of really talented producers, writers, vocalists and music engineers from New York, and they’ve been in the studio every day this year cranking out music. We have a whole lineup ready to roll out this year, and I really think they’re going to make a big splash.”

Glass said the first track, “Lose Control,” is the first original that the collective XIMONE who also wrote some of the lyrics. According to Alpha Moses, it’s a perfect song to kick off “Complexion of Sound” because it shows off the versatility of the group with its mix of Pop, Electronic and House vibes.

“The entire project will be showing off that versatility, and this song is going to kick off 2021 with this new vision,” he said. “We’re trying to break through the House and Electronic sound into the Pop radio sound. It’s a similar vibe to DJ Snake or Diplo – kind of crossing boundaries and melding two different worlds.”

Alpha Moses said “Lose Control” is a song about longing for love. It explores a forbidden relationship between a guy and a girl who are with other people but long to be with each other.

“Even though they have a connection and tension between them, they know they can’t be together,” he said. “She’s pleading with him to leave the person he’s with so he can be by her side. It has a Dua Lipa cute-pop-strong-woman kind of feel to it. It’s almost Calvin Harris-esque, with that pop lyrical kind of cute vocals with dancy upbeat music under it. It’s a good time, and I think people will enjoy hearing it when they’re out having a good time.”

Alpha Moses said the song first started when he and PHNTM Live were in the studio running through Calvin Harris tracks trying to recreate that feel with a new-school sound. They started with a demo and after he started writing some lyrics, he got in touch with XIMONE to help elevate the song. In his words, she “leveled it up,” and QR’N helped give it that extra push at the end to make it as high-quality and professional as possible.”

“It really was a collaborative effort,” PHNTM Live said. “At the end of the day, we want our music to be known for good energy and open-mindedness. We want our music to be a good time. Even when we might be talking about something darker or sadder, we still want the energy to be uplifting. We want the people who listen to our music to have a positive mindset, but keep on dancing.”

DEMO – Hey Sofia

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

International artist DEMO brings funky fusion of sounds with new single ‘Hey Sofia’

LOS ANGELES, CA – Fusion of sound is a staple for international artist DEMO. With a funky blend of R&B and Rock that features influences of Pop and Dance Hall vibes, DEMO has the kind of unique sound and style that truly caters to a wide audience all over the globe. That one-of-a-kind sound is put on full display with his new single “Hey Sofia,” set to drop wide across all streaming platforms the first week of January.

With a funky R&B swag that has a great bassline and groovy guitar licks, “Hey Sofia” is a song about finding inspiration in the midst of a creative slump. DEMO said the song was born from his own battle with creative frustration during a time when he was looking to expand his reach as an artist. The accomplished singer/songwriter has worked with international artists and producers for many years, and his move to LA was in an effort to take his career to the next level.

“Sofie is like a muse, and she’s a metaphor for the thing that helps you find inspiration from others,” DEMO said. “It’s a song about finding inspiration in the midst of whatever artistic endeavors you’re involved in. It’s a good song for the clubs and it’s very good to dance to.”

Over the course of his young career, DEMO has become known for seamlessly fusing wisps of Pop, Funk, R&B and Electronic into a smoke signature Indie sound. His lyricism – ranging from morose to whimsical – offers an unvarnished reflection of life and self and relies heavily on metaphoric imagery.

“I’ve played mostly in Rock bands growing up, but with some of my more recent music, I’ve been able to fuse sounds of Rock and Funk with a producer who is more into Electronic Synth sounds,” DEMO said. “My sound is harnessing the Rock and R&B and fusing that with Electronic Synth into a sound that I think is pretty unique. Ultimately, I want to be known for being introspective while having sounds that are playful. ‘Hey Sofia’ is very dancy and poppy and fun, but the lyrics are about a person who is unsatisfied with his creativity in music. It is self-criticism done in a way that’s more fun. The lyrics are more in depth and prone to making people think, but it’s a song that’s going to help people have fun. You could almost ignore the lyrics and just dance if you want to.”

DEMO has seen some success over the years and has had the opportunity to perform at notable venues across the U.S. and France, including the 9:30 Club in Washington DC and the Gibus Club in Paris. In addition to “Hey Sofia,” he has also released a funky single called “A Different Way” which is getting some good attention, and he’s also working toward a bigger project that he plans to release in mid 2021.

Carl Wockner – Fools Gold

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music

Independent underdog Carl Wockner translates live acoustic looping into professionally recorded singles

NASHVILLE, TN – Carl Wockner is what some people in the industry would call an independent underdog. This live acoustic looping artist from Australia is a seasoned veteran who has played thousands of live shows around the world over the course of his career. He’s developed a great career out of those live performances – blending his own unique sound and style into his original music that’s become beloved by a global audience. But like many other artists who faced difficult circumstances in 2020 due to the global pandemic and lockdown, Wockner was forced to sideline his live performing for a time. But in true underdog fashion, he shifted gears and started putting pen to paper, creating a slew of singles that he’s recorded and has been releasing to the masses over the past few months.

His most recent single is a song called “Fool’s Gold.” Showcasing the acoustic R&B sound he’s become known for, the song explores the deeper side of relationships and the true commitment that comes once you get past the surface things. It will be the sixth single that he’s released over the past six months and will be available across all streaming platforms at the beginning of 2021. Of the singles he’s released this year, he said “Fool’s Gold” will show fans a different side of his personality while also highlighting his signature sound.

“I’m an acoustic looping artist, so I’m of course influenced by acoustics singers and songwriters who have good lyrics,” Wockner said. “I like to blend those styles with R&B beats. Usually, acoustic guitar isn’t anywhere in R&B songs – they usually feature a lot of keys. But I like to add that Acoustic sound to something with a cool beat, and I love R&B tunes and Pop music. When you blend that with the singer/songwriter vibe, I believe there’s a lot of room to incorporate all the things I love.”

Wockner started as a full-time musician when he was a teenager growing up in Australia. He toured a lot of the world playing shows and making a name for himself. In 2015, he moved to Nashville to take his music career to the next level and has been releasing recorded singles in the years since. But 2020 has given him a unique opportunity to translate his live performances to original recordings in new and exciting ways.

“A lot of my earlier recordings are band-related,” he said. “Not that I’m taking the elements of the acoustic looping – which is what I already do live – and translate that into a recorded sound. I want those elements to shine through and show people that it can be done. I want my music to reflect me more as a personality, as an independent artist or an underdog artist. My music should speak for itself. There shouldn’t be a boundary to music based on a textbook. On top of that, I want people to take messages from my songs and the lyrical content I create, while also creating music that can stand alone without the lyrics.”

Wockner said he’ll continue dropping singles every month, alternating between an original and a cover from month to month.

Lilo – Horses Make Me Cry

Blog, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Young British singer/songwriter continues string of successful singles with cinematic power ballad
Horses Make Me Cry’

YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND – A young singer/songwriter from Northern England is beginning to make a splash on the international stage with her cinematic Pop songs, the most recent of which was officially released on 18th December.

Lilo is a 20-year-old musician from Yorkshire, England who has slowly been making a name for herself over the past three years. Her new single, “Horses Make Me Cry” will be the fourth single she’s released this year. It’s a power ballad with heavy piano, light strings and her signature soaring vocals that are perfectly suited to belt out the emotion that this song evokes. Born from the feelings that often arise from being overwhelmed by too many things – something most people around the world have experienced in 2020 – the song shines a light on the beautiful things of the world that are oftentimes so refreshing that they serve as a natural release for all the tension.

“In Europe, we have a lot of these amazing adverts of horses, and they’re usually emotional adverts,” Lilo said. “One night my mother and I were watching one of the adverts and she said, ‘I don’t know why, but horses make me cry.’ I started thinking about why horses are so emotional, and I realized it was because they’re so elegant and beautiful. That got me to thinking about the beautiful things in our lives that overwhelm us with emotion because they’re such a break from all of the other things we’ve been experiencing. That’s what this song is about.”

Lilo said that true to her style of music, “Horses Make Me Cry” is a cinematic Pop song that’s very dynamic and features a “big” sound with orchestral influences paired with catchy lyrics. She said she loves songs that make listeners feel something, and that every song she creates will endeavor to make people feel something. That said, this single is somewhat of a departure from the three others she released earlier this year, all of which were more upbeat.

“When it comes to my music, the main thing I want is to give people goosebumps,” Lilo said. “I want to make music that moves you. I want to have songs that are upbeat and make you dance, but also songs that draw you in. There’s a meaning and a purpose to all of my songs. I love melodies and I love breaking down every melody I’ve written and finding ways to improve it because I like every single sound to have a purpose and a meaning.”

Lilo said “Horses Make Me Cry” is one of six singles she’d planned on releasing over the course of a year, and that she has more music ready to go for 2021. She also said she might release an EP in the summer of 2021.
