Young General Yg7 – Eye’s Of Pain

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Young General YG7 has recently released The Breakthrough

New Orleans, LA – An up and coming Hip Hop artist under the name of Young General YG7 has recently released his latest album. The 17 track album is titled “The Breakthrough” and showcases Young General’s versatility and skill as a musician. Overall, the track has a smooth feel and is a truly easy listen.

Young General first took interest in music when he was only 14 years old. It was not until 2018 that he really began to seriously get into the music industry. “I didn’t start really taking my music seriously until after I got out of prison in 2018. After that, I really started to take my craft seriously and actually start pursuing it.”

Once his career began to take off, Young General developed a strong and unique sound of his own. He draws much of his inspiration from real life, something that really shows through in his music. “I have a unique style. Basically, I make my music based off of real stories and struggles that I have faced in my life. I have my own way of using my creativity in my work and making something that people haven’t heard before.”

Young General’s new album, The Breakthrough”, shows exactly this with a collection of tracks that depict moments in his life and things that he has encountered. “I was inspired by a bunch of my own stories, living in the ghetto, going through struggles with prison and poverty. I talk about run-ins with the law and getting money and all of these things that I’ve had experiences with.” The album allows for a look into what it is like to be in Young General’s shoes. “It’s not the kind of album that you would hear on a daily basis. It is different and it’s real.”

While working on this project, Young General was hooked from the beginning. “My favorite part was from the moment I came up with the title and the whole idea for the album. Being able to work on these songs and reflect on my past and my life was a great experience in itself.” Once Young General got into the recording studio, he knew that he was on the right track. “Hearing myself on the track was the most fun. It really all started to come together.”

The Breakthrough is an interesting and relatable collection of tracks. It is Young General’s goal to connect with his audience and inspire them. “I want to let people know that they are not the only ones going through it. I hope it inspires them to keep going and keep pushing for the next thing because nothing happens overnight. You have to put work in and earn it.”

With The Breakthrough already out on all major platforms, Young General is already gearing up for the next part of the project. The Breakthrough Part 2 is already in the works, as well as several videos to go with the tracks on the original album. Young General is planning to keep moving forward and building himself as an artist. He is surely someone to look out for.

4LGang G5ive – Tighten Up Ft. Young Nudy

Blog, ME Blog, Music, Promo

4LGang G5ive explores ‘Sometimez Krazy’ life on new mixtape

ATLANTA, GA – Born and raised in Atlanta, Taurus Maddox – better known by his stage name 4LGang G5ive – is an artist who has always related to the streets. After serving six years in prison for mistakes he made as an adolescent, G5ive has poured himself into music. He has a star quality about him which fans all over the South are starting to notice with the release of his most recent mixtape “Sometimez Krazy.”

Sharing his journey through music, G5ive offers 11 tracks on his new mixtape that explore the different experiences he’s had both before and after prison. Living each day in Atlanta brings its share of highs and lows, he said, and the music on his new project explores the “sometimes crazy” situations that arise throughout the course of his life.

“I started making a lot of music when I was in jail,” he said. “I just grabbed a pen and a pad and started beating on the desk. When I got out, I hooked up with my brother and cousin who have always been rapping. I watched them pursue music and I realized that’s the way to get ahead. When nobody else thinks you’re gonna do anything, that’s a way to change that outlook.”

The first single from the mixtape explores that idea in more depth. “Tighten Up” is a bouncy, fun song featuring Young Nudy that talks about living and running around in East Atlanta. Serving as a kind of warning to others who live a crazy lifestyle, the song encourages people to be self-disciplined in the midst of their good times.

“Don’t be forgetting that the police will be watching,” G5ive said. “They on you. Also, you’ve got enemies out there. That’s what this song is about – how we’re living and having fun, but making sure we’re not having too much fun. We gotta tighten up.”

Another single from the mixtape that’s been getting a lot of attention from fans is “No Lackin.” The upbeat vibe offers a sort of anthem to the world about always being safe and never being a victim of circumstance or of someone else’s desires. Like all the rest of his music, “No Lackin” feeds off G5ive’s natural energy.

“I really want to be known for quality sound and music that people can relate to,” he said. “I want my music to be able to hit any type of mood. If you’re feeling good, I’ve got songs for that. If you’re mad, I’ve got songs for that. Any type of mood I have, that’s how I go in the booth. Every kind of energy you can think of, people can relate to and it’s good quality and something that will last and people can listen to forever. And at the end of the day, it’s just good music.”

Fatelive – Around Me

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

“Not another dead rapper”

NEW YORK CITY, NY – This story isn’t really much different than a lot of other stories in the world. Like them, it has challenging times and prosperous times. And as such, this East Coast artist who goes by the stage name Fatelive can identify with a large audience around the world with his.

His latest single “Around Me” is a perfect example of how he uses lyrics to connect with people and motivate them through many different life experiences. In the case of this specific single, Fatelive is exploring the after-effects of betrayal and the consequences that come from putting one’s trust in the wrong person.

“I went through some life experiences where I had some not too trustworthy people around me,” Fatelive said. “People who were snakes. That’s what this song is about, and the theatrical video really brings it to life. I feel like it’s something many people can identify with – dealing with people who aren’t true friends. People have been victimized like I was but they survived and learned from it. We’re smarter for it and better for it, and we don’t need those kinds of people around us anymore.”

Fatelive said he first got into music when he was around age 14, rapping and singing on his own when he was inspired by some of the legends he heard on the radio. He said he knew it was his fate to make music when some of the first things he created were embraced and celebrated by a large audience around his community. Music has been a part of him ever since, and he’s worked hard to hone his craft into something that’s truly original and signature.

“I don’t start with a sound, I start with an experience,” he said. “I literally create a sound based off life experiences – literally things I’ve lived through or ideas I’ve had because of things I’ve seen. I’ll put that into a melody and the message comes through with my songs. Ultimately, I just want to get my story out and see where it goes from there.”

Fatelive said in addition to the singles he’s dropping over the next few months, fans can expect to see big budget theatrical videos to go with them. The next video he plans to drop is for his upcoming single “Ruling It” which will give fans a taste of what’s to come. It’s an anthem for all those who have overcome hardships and are controlling their environment with their progress.”

All of Fatelive’s music is available across all digital streaming platforms.

Shawa – Touch Di Road

Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Reggae and Dance Hall artist Shawa aims to make signature sound accessible to a global audience

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A Reggae sensation who is on a mission to completely restructure the dancehall culture is setting the world on fire with his latest hit single “Touch Di Road.”

Shawa is a Trinidad & Tobago native who now lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His sound and style are a unique blend of multiple influences that are shaking up the traditional sounds of Reggae and Dancehall music. And as that sound gets in front of more ears, this fast-rising young artist is quickly becoming a global phenomenon.

“Touch Di Road” takes the Caribbean vibes of his heritage and puts them through his unique filter to create something that’s both modern and progressive. True to the best Dancehall music, it’s a song that will get people up on their feet, but it’s also a song that will make people think a little more deeply and encourage them to look forward to good times yet to come.

“With everything we’re going through the Coronavirus and the lockdown, the Dancehall culture just kind of went away,” Shawa said. “You could say the Coronavirus is the enemy of Dancehall. But when the lockdown is over, we’re gonna go out and hit the streets. We’re gonna paint the streets red. We’re gonna “Touch Di Road”. So this song is about getting ready to party as soon as this thing is over.”

Shawa said part of his purpose in blending new sounds with the traditional Dancehall rhythms is to reach a more international audience. He said Reggae has often been limited to a specific audience and as such, there’s a deficit of international artists within that genre. But Shawa wants to take his music global and make it available for everybody.

“Reggae shouldn’t just be for a Caribbean audience,” he said. “It should be for everybody. That’s why I say I want to restructure the Dancehall culture. It can’t be underground anymore. It can’t be structured around immoral things, like it has in the past. I want to polish it and represent it with royalty. Everyone is a king – that’s one of our slogans. And with that comes a polished, clean sound.”

As Shawa continues to expand on this sound and style, he said he’s interested in working with all of the major DJs and collaborating with other artists to create something truly original. He’s not a one-dimensional artist and can seamlessly flow between multiple genres and popular music as a whole. More than anything, he’s looking for global appreciation of this brand of music that he said has always been great and for which he has a deep love and appreciation.

“Touch Di Road” is currently available across all streaming platforms under the Global Excalibur Music label.

Respect Jknight – Never Leave

Respect Jknight brings decade-plus of craftsmanship to the table with hot new single ‘Never Leave’

ROCHESTER, NY – If you give respect, you get respect. That’s the mantra of East Coast artist Respect Jknight whose latest single “Never Leave” is currently lighting up the digital airwaves.

Born and raised in upstate Rochester, Jermiane J. Griffin – AKA Jknight – began to freestyle rap at the age of 10 with his other siblings and friends from around the neighborhood. His inspirations came from artists such as Nas, Jadakiss and Styles-P. He studied the music industry and eventually began to cross into making beats and recording his own vocals. In late 2009, he established his own production company Vice Versa Entertainment Productions, and over the past decade has continued to make music and provide opportunities for other up-and-coming artists in the area to chase their dreams.

With “Never Leave,” Jknight showcases a decade-plus worth of talent that has been honed and crafted into something that’s equal parts original and high quality. With a Hip Hop and R&B fusion that features fellow Rochester artist Ricky Kartel, “Never Leave” is the perfect song to capture the emotions that come with committing to that one true love.

“It’s about being through that someone that you’ve spent years and years with,” he said. “It’s about that person that you’ve committed to never leave. You’ve been through thick and thin together, with all the headaches and heartaches. She respects you as a real person which is why she never left. If you’re real with that person, then they’ll respect you and you have something deep.”

Jknight said the single also showcases his ability to bridge the gap between old school and new school. He brings a very versatile style to the table, displaying an ability to rap with the best of them by creating a vibe that’s nostalgic but also progressive.

“I want my music to be known for giving someone the vibe of a dude who loves music and loves his craft,” Jknight said. “If a beat comes up, I know I can put a hook to it. I dig deeper with the story. You can hear the intricate notes I’m bringing, and the way I play my beats or spit my verses is what really sets me apart. I’m trying to show people that I’m a Hip Hop head, but I’m still into the new way of rapping. You could call me an unorthodox producer and artist. Jknight represents that slick, smooth, straight-to-the-point kind of person.”

Roving Jewel – On Everything (feat. Substantial)

Blog, Industry Spotlight, ME Blog, Music, Promo

Notorious producer Roving Jewel collaborates withHip Hop legends on new album ‘The 38th Expansion’

SACRAMENTO, CA – Roving Jewel is a beatmaker, producer and multi-instrumentalist from Sacramento, California whose new album “The 38th Expansion” gives fans of Hip Hop a throwback flavor that’s reminiscent of the mid-90s and early 2000s. With production that’s drenched in gritty Boom-Bap, Soul, Jazz, World and Psychedelia, Roving Jewel has a unique sound and style that is lighting up the West Coast. He first caught attention with his instrumental project, “Auditory Hallucinations,” earlier this year and is now ready to follow that up with his full-length album “The 38th Expansion.”

The project is unique in that this well known industry-respected producer has partnered with 14 different artists to feature on each of the songs on the album. Artists include: Substantial, TEK (from Smif-N-Wessun), Killah Priest and Prodigal Sunn (from Sunz of Man), Casual (from Hieroglyphics), 9th Prince and Kinetic 9 (from Killarmy), Zion I, Planet Asia, C.O.N-Vers, The Shaaw Brothers, Andrew Lozano, Mother’s Milk, and El Conductor as the DJ on one of the tracks. Together, these notorious industry veterans help Roving Jewel create a sound that takes listeners back to the golden era of Hip Hop.

“These artists are a lot of heavy hitters from the mid-90s and early 2000s hip-hop,” Roving Jewel said. “I wanted some legendary emcees on there – people who had the kind of sound I grew up with. When I pitched the idea to them, they were down to work on the project. It’s something that we’ve crafted together over the past six to eight months. I’m 38 this year, which is a big part of the reason for the name. But that number is also an auspicious number in numerology. It represents a time of growth, creativity and expansion that’s usually marked by some sort of turmoil before growth. That’s a good metaphor of 2020 and what this year has brought for so many of us. So on this album, you’re going to hear a lot of things that reflect what we’re going through in present times – from civil rights to racial tension to police brutality and of course the pandemic. Ultimately, it’s an album that captures the mindset of how everyone is making it through it.”

The debut single from the project is a song called “On Everything” which features Substantial – known for his insightful lyrics and his work with acclaimed Japanese producer Nujabes known for his jazzy and soulful take on Hip Hop. Roving Jewel said the song definitely embraces that jazzy, soulful vibe as Substantial raps about what he’s facing as a black man in America right now and what he has to go through in his day-to-day life. It’s a song that he said not only demonstrates the individuality of each of the artists featured on the project, but also which sets the tone for the creativity and diversity of the entire album.

“In Hip Hop, a lot of the stuff you hear in the mainstream today is Trap-infused and to me doesn’t have the soulfulness and warmness – or even the grittiness – that the mid-90s had,” he said. “I kind of wanted to embody that as an echo back to that golden era. I also included some stuff to make it sound like it was brought up in the present times and some things that can take us into the future as well. In some cases, you might hear some weird synth sounds, some angelic voices in the background, or soundscapes with sparse percussion to create that futuristic sound that pairs well with the 90s era of Hip Hop.”

1260BC – 1260 AM

New album from 1260BC shares unvarnished truth of the streets

ATLANTA, GA – A new artist from Atlanta, Georgia is bringing a style of Hip Hop to the table that is equal parts raw and respect. 1260BC is an up-and-coming rapper who is bringing his stories from the streets and sharing them with the world with unvarnished truth. In fact, it’s that realism that he most wants to be known for as an artist – something which shines bright on his latest single “1260 AM.”

“I hate rappers who say something and really don’t live it,” he said. “That’s why I really just want everybody to know I’m telling the truth. I live what I rap.”

1260BC said he respects rappers such as Kevin Gates and Nipsey Hussle for the energy they bring to their music and for the fact that they, too, tell the truth with their lyrics. But more than that, he said he’s always been impressed with how those legends have been able to connect with a wide audience.

“They tell you how it is and why it is and they’re straightforward,” he said. “They tell the truth, and that’s what I want to be known for when it comes to my music. I want people to know I don’t hold back. The things that Kevin Gates has been through, I’ve been through them, too. Back in 2013, I was still in the streets and going crazy. But when I saw him on Breakfast Club, my life changed.”

That moment served as a spark of inspiration for 1260BC who started moving away from baseball and toward music. He served for two-and-a-half years in the military and upon returning home started working with his brother on his unique sound and style as an artist. Over the past seven years, he’s been honing that sound while trying to break away from that street lifestyle that has so many consequences. For his latest single, he said he happened to get lucky with a local Atlanta producer who heard him rapping on the mic one day and offered to bring him a beat for the song.

“I was in the studio with one of my boys and when the producer walked in and heard us he said he had a beat that would be perfect for it,” 1260BC said. “He sent it to me the next day and we laid it down right away. It’s an upbeat track and when some people hear it they say it reminds them of 21 Savage. But I have my own sound that’s just different than anyone else.”

1260BC said he’s planning on continuing to drop singles over the next few months, leading up to a full album that he’d like to release in summer 2021.

Intl Don – Stop F’king With Me

ME Blog, Music, Promo

Gangsta Trap Rap takes center stage with new single from Intl Don

LAS VEGAS, NV – Some real “Dirty South” Gangsta Trap Rap comes to the forefront with a new single from International Don. “Stop F’king With Me” is an aggressive, in-your-face slow jam that evokes memories of 90s Gangsta Rap and features Intl Don’s signature gravelly voice. Reminiscent of rappers like Jadakiss or Busta Rhymes, Intl Don brings a hardcore sound that’s equal parts bouncy and hype. The song will make you want to bop your head while getting pumped up for whatever comes next in your life.

“I’m from the South and I’ve got my own style, which I call Gangsta Pimp,” Intl Don said. “I’m kinda keeping that Memphis flow but with that Gangsta Pimp Trap vibe. I call my music a survival kit because it shows people in the struggle how to make it out. My music shows you how to live especially in the jungle like that. Only the strong survive where I’m from. You’ve gotta be tough. You’ve gotta be strong. That’s what my music is about.”

Intl Don’s signature style isn’t one-sided, however. In fact, his name is a precursor to his sound in that he has a very international flavor to the music he creates. As someone who has traveled all around the world, he’s taken influences from many different cultures. That’s why his music is already making waves in various parts of the world. In fact, one of the biggest markets to embrace his sound is the thriving Hip Hop audience from the United Kingdom. That’s quite a journey for someone who grew up on the streets of Memphis, Tennessee.

“I remember when I first started music as a kid that we’d all get together and stand around each other on the streets and just start rapping,” Intl Don said. “I was always the best rapper and I could just go off the head with it. I had a way with my flow and I was always the one with the most aggressive, deeper voice. Around 2010 is when I started getting serious with my music. And though I got sidetracked for a long time, I’m ready to go all the way with it. I came from the struggle and you can still hear that in my music, but I’ve also evolved as an artist and I think that’s what makes me a hit in other countries.”

Following the success of “Stop F’king With Me,” Intl Don said he plans to release another single called “Like I’m Cash” later this year. It’ll be another “Gangsta Pimp song,” he said, with a music video to follow before the end of the year.
